On 29 January, The Italian School Guglielmo Marconi in New York celebrated a special moment for his educational community: the initiation of the meeting room in Vito and Carolyn Desimone, as a sign of thanks for their generous donation in support of the mission of the School. The classroom, already used daily for meetings, activities and meetings between teachers and families, now bears the name of the Desimone, becoming a concrete symbol of support and closeness by those who believe in Italian education abroad.
The ceremony was attended by Dean Anthony Martyr, professors, students and representatives of the families of the students, united in welcoming this gesture of solidarity and commitment to the school community. The day was an opportunity to reflect on the importance of collaboration between school, families and external supporters, and how much this support can make the difference in the daily life of students.
Vito and Carolyn Desimone are members of the Association of Italian American Educators (AIAE), an organization that for years promotes Italian language and culture in the United States and supports educational initiatives related to the formation of new generations. Their donation allowed the School to strengthen some educational and infrastructural projects, confirming how the support of donors is essential to continue offering quality education.
To strengthen the link between the Italian school and donors was Cav. Josephine A. Maietta, President of AIAE and conductor of the radio program “Sabato Italiano” onWRHU – Hofstra University, which for years has been committed to supporting important projects for the Italian community in America.
The Desimone classroom thus becomes a space not only physical, but also symbolic: a place where you meet ideas, projects and people who share the same commitment to Italian education and culture.
