ROMA (ITALPRESS) – A dramatic complaint, but also a cry of hope, to invoke urgent interventions and a profound reform of the Italian penitentiary system inspired by the principles of our Constitution. It is “The emergency denied. The collapse of the Italian prisons”, the book written by Gianni Alemanno, Fabio Falbo and other people held in Rebibbia’s G8 arm, which tells the situation in which the people held live, the emergency on this institution, generated first of all by overcrowding. The presentation, which took place today, among others, of the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russo, and the Vice-President of the Csm, Fabio Pinelli, saw a greeting from the two authors through artificial intelligence.
“This is the civil and social struggle of two different people but linked to the challenge towards prejudice and indifference towards those who are within the Italian prisons. I didn’t have to face my incredible arrest to do the guaranteed battles on justice – says Gianni Alemanno -, but arrived in Rebibbia I didn’t expect to find such a degraded situation. The first engine of degradation is the overcrowding that is growing, it overwhelms the already narrow margins of civil life and lowers the existential paths of those who are serving a penalty.”.
Fabio Falbo tells us “through an avatar because the system does not want us authors to be here, but this book is the result of experience, study and resilience. The Italian prisons are collapsed and it is not an emergency but a systemic crisis, the function of the punishment is betrayed every day. When the penalty becomes revenge the state loses its soul, the prison must be a place of a new possibility,” he concludes.
“In no case can the penalty affect the dignity of the person. The first opportunity in which it is leased is when it is dismayed in a condition of overcrowding. On this I feel like I continue to make a battle,” says the President of the Senate, Ignatius La Russo. “Something is not working, we must at least try to take small steps. I would like us to realize that if we ask the moon we don’t even get the bulb, but if we ask a chandelier maybe the bulb we get it. Before Christmas – adds Russian – let us together make an appeal for something to happen, with a decree or with a measure, without taking away from the various problems. Today we try to get even only the bulb and give a little breath to the prisons that are collapsed, letting that those who the penalty almost granted it can continue to do it in another way”.
