ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Here comes the “quality bubble” of the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC) for cardiologists who refer to telemedicine tests performed in community pharmacies. The initiative was founded in the context of the experimental protocol initiated between the SIC and Medea, a diagnostic service provider, with the aim of defining technological and methodological requirements shared for the specialist referral of electrocardiogram (ECG), cardiac Holter and Holter diary, for the benefit of citizens who access telemedicine services in pharmacy. The trial will involve over 2,800 community pharmacies distributed throughout the country.
The Operational Lines for Telemedicine prepared by the SIC also with the collaboration of the Federation of Orders of Italian Pharmacists (FOFI), can support pharmacists in providing services. The goal is to ensure high and homogeneous standards of quality and performance safety, strengthening the prevention and monitoring of cardiovascular health thanks to the proximity of the pharmacist and an increasingly close collaboration between pharmacists and cardiologists.
“The Memorandum of Understanding marks the start of a fruitful collaboration with pharmacists, aimed at guaranteeing patients the best possible assistance. Making a team is important to build a more efficient health service and close to the real needs of people – says Gianfranco Sinagra, president SIC and director of the School of Specialization and the Complex Structure of Cardiology of the University of Trieste -. In this context, SIC is positioned as the first scientific company in Italy to provide clear and rigorous indications of good clinical practice for the execution and telerefertation of diagnostic services in pharmacy.”.
“The framework agreement aims to standardize the diagnostic performance performed in the pharmacy – intervenes Pasquale Perrone Filardi, Vice President Italian Federation of Cardiology -. Through specific guidelines prepared by the SIC, they are detailed: the optimal range of the minimum technical requirements of the equipment, the execution protocols and good practices for the pharmacist, the criteria of telerefertation, strictly entrusted to cardiologist specialists.”.
“Our goal is to ensure the citizen entering the pharmacy the same safety and clinical accuracy standards he would find in a hospital clinic – says Perrone Filardi. With this scientific and technological synergy, we not only validate telemedicine routes, but we create a network of protection on the territory thanks to the development of algorithms that can quickly intercept anomalies that require the immediate sending of the patient to the ER or the specialist. It is the cardiology of the future: close, valid and safe”.
“Thanks to telemedicine, the pharmacist makes cardiovascular prevention increasingly accessible, offering citizens greater opportunities for monitoring and health protection,” says Andrea Mandelli, president of the Federation of Orders of Italian Pharmacists (FOFI). “The synergy with the Italian Society of Cardiology is part of the Federation’s commitment to guarantee, through the definition of shared standards and collaboration among professionals, the highest levels of quality and safety of services provided to citizens.”.
