Tajani “We do not think it is right to send Italian troops to Ukraine”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We have always said that we would not send troops on the ground, but that we would continue to help Ukraine – as we have always done – through the military, financial and political instrument. We are not at war with Russia and we do not think it is right to send Italian troops.” So the vice-premier and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, at “Cinque Minuti” aired tonight on Rai1. “We will play a leading role, however, because we will be among the countries that will guarantee the security of Ukraine through a system” that follows the “Italian proposal on the model of article 5 of NATO: in case of external aggression, the countries that sign the agreement are ready to intervene also militarily to help that country, but only in case of attack”.

“You must put Putin to the test: the first thing is to arrive at the ceasefire, all that was discussed and decided yesterday in Paris concerns the day after the ceasefire. I believe that then the final agreement must be that between Putin and Zelensky, perhaps with the American intermediation, but then it will also serve a European presence because without Europe we cannot take the sanctions that are there to the Russian federation, so Europe will have to be protagonist”, he added. “At this moment it really needs more Europe, it needs an electroshock: Europe must count more both as regards the Greenland affair, both as regards the Ukraine-Russia affair, and as regards the new geopolitical situation in the world. We need more Europe and we must make this happen.”.
