BELEM (ITALPRESS) – “Climate change is a reality that touches us all, to be faced by putting the person at the centre of our action to protect nature”. Thus the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, speaking on behalf of the Government and on delegation of the President of the Council to the Climate Summit in Belém, Brazil.
A few days after the opening of the CoP30, Tajani has reiterated the Italian position – also decisive in the agreement reached a few days ago in Brussels by the EU Environment Ministers – for an approach that combines rationality and balance. “There can be no fight against climate change without taking into account the social question,” said Tajani, inviting ideological approaches to impose unsustainable and unreachable goals, risking even damaging the European economic, industrial and social system.
Minister Tajani recalled the commitment to the energy transition from Italy, where renewable sources now cover 50% of electricity production. In this context, it is important to be able to use all available technologies and Italy, together with Brazil and Japan, promoted an initiative for biofuels that aims to quadruple the production of sustainable fuels by 2035.
In all key areas for environmental protection – agriculture, water but also health and technology – Italy is ready to provide its experience and best knowledge. Minister Tajani recalled the main initiatives that we see committed to our country, in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, of which this year marks the 10th anniversary. In particular, the Climate Fund, which, with more than 4 billion euros, Italy is addressing projects on the African continent in particular. In closing, Minister Tajani recalled that Italy celebrates this year 800 years since the birth of St. Francis, underlining how the common action against climate change is inspired by his thought of lover of nature, humanity and all the Creation that each of us is part of.
