There is a new place in Los Angeles that speaks Italian. In fact, he speaks Roman. It is called Romanaccia and is a project that aims to bring not only an authentic pizza in the heart of Hollywood, but a real piece of Rome. A place where Italians can feel at home and where Americans can finally discover the real taste of Roman pizza: crisp, light, intense, far from the most commercial stereotypes of Italian cuisine abroad.
Behind the project is Luca Tartaglia, Roman, with a past between cinema, acting and production between Italy and the United States, who decided to transform his passion for Made in Italy into a new gastronomic concept in the heart of Hollywood. Romanaccia was born from the idea of creating something authentic, contemporary and deeply linked to Roman culture.
“I didn’t want to simply open a pizzeria, but build a brand that told a piece of Italy, Rome, in an authentic and contemporary way,” says Tartaglia. The restaurant is located in the heart of Hollywood and offers the classic Roman pizza cut: cooked on the palate, served in rectangular slices and characterized by a long leavening that makes it crisp but at the same time extremely digestible.
“From Romanaccia we wanted to bring to Hollywood the authenticity of Roman pizza made as we do in Rome: long doughs, premium ingredients and a very artisanal philosophy. ” A concept well different from the Neapolitan pizza, softer and with the classic high cornice, but also distant from the caliper, often confused with the true Roman tradition.
Next to Tartaglia there is also Alessandro Scuderi, a professional well known in the world of contemporary Roman pizza, who contributed to the construction of the gastronomic identity of the local. “With Alessandro, a very strong, both human and professional tune was born. He immediately shared my vision: bringing an authentic, modern and high-level product out of Italy without compromise,” explains Tartaglia.
But Romanaccia wants to be more than just a pizzeria. “For many Italians living in Los Angeles entering Romanaccia means feeling for a moment of being back home,” says the founder. And this is one of the aspects that strikes by entering the premises: the convivial atmosphere, the modern but warm design, the possibility to drink a spritz speaking Italian in the heart of Hollywood, surrounded by Italian wines, Italian beers and ingredients imported directly from Italy.
Made in Italy, here, is not just marketing. “For me Made in Italy does not simply mean using an Italian product. It means respecting a culture, a tradition and a certain way of doing things,” Tartaglia explains. A philosophy that is reflected in the choice of flours, tomatoes, meats, cheeses and even in the human approach to the customer. In recent months the Italian gastronomic scene of Los Angeles is experiencing a new phase, increasingly oriented towards precise authenticity and territorial identity. In this context Romanaccia tries to cut out a very recognizable space: that of contemporary Romanity, without compromise.
The goal, however, already looks beyond Hollywood. “I would like to expand the project in other strategic areas of Los Angeles, the USA and in the future also in other international cities. But the most important thing is to build something that lasts over time and becomes a reference point for Roman pizza in the world. ” And perhaps this is the strength of Romanaccia: do not just serve pizza, but tell Rome through an experience, an atmosphere and a precise Italian identity.
