ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In Italy, a man every 9 receives a diagnosis of prostate cancer. It is the most widespread neoplasia of the male genital sphere and therefore often feared, but of which it is not necessary to be afraid: Thanks to early prevention and diagnosis, a healing rate of more than 90% is recorded. It is the message launched by the national campaign Blue ribbon 2025, promoted by LILT-Lega Italiana for the fight against Tumori, dedicated to the awareness and prevention of the most frequent male oncological diseases and presented today at the Ninfeo-ENPAM Museum in Rome. From 15 to 30 November 2025, LILT territorial associations will create a capillary network of initiatives throughout Italy, with urological visits, dissemination and scientific meetings, information panels, activities in schools and workplaces, as well as social campaigns and listening spaces. The goal is to invite men to take care of themselves: to know the main risk factors, to experience regular checks and to adopt correct lifestyles are simple but fundamental gestures for prevention. The Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, recalled in a video message that “the promotion of primary and secondary prevention is a priority activity of the Ministry of Health, which we also strengthen with the budget law 2026”, enhancing “oncologic screening programs and expanding age groups for access to the screening of colorectal cancer”. In addition, “in line with the National Oncology Plan and European Recommendations, we are also considering the possibility of progressively extending screening to other male neoplasms, such as prostate cancer. And we continue to finance the Italian network for lung cancer screening, which we want to include as soon as possible in the free programs of the national health service”. The Minister of Health pointed out that “prevention is the best drug we have, and our commitment to the LILT is to reach an increasing number of citizens, women and men. I thank the LILT for what it does every day in support of prevention, to be a reference point for thousands of people.” 41,000 new cases of prostate cancer are recorded each year, representing over 20% of male neoplasms. The maximum incidence is after 65 years. The other unique locations of purely male tumors are testicle and penis. The testicle tumor, while representing just 1-3% of all male neoplasms, is the most frequent in under 45, with about 2,400 new cases a year. And thanks to the available therapies, it has a treatment of more than 90%. The carcinoma of the penis is instead a rare neoplasia (about 500 new cases each year in Italy), with a favorable prognosis in case of early diagnosis: it is of 74% average survival to 5 years. “Health is not only absence of disease, but balance, responsibility and respect for itself – it has emphasized the president LILT, Francesco Schittulli -. With the Blue ribbon campaign we want to remember that prevention is a way of life: a daily path that starts from awareness”. In this sense, he added, “the LILT is next to men of all ages through his walkers. Health protection is not an abstract right, but a daily duty and a cultural act: for this we continue to work to develop the culture of prevention, consolidating it in the psychosocial fabric of our country. Because prevention is cure.” Bernardo Rocco, Director of Urological Clinic of the University Polyclinic Foundation A. Gemelli IRCCS Rome, stressed that “the early diagnosis is a true life-saving, we can no longer afford that fear or shame hinder health”. Giuseppe Tonini, Vice President of the LILT Scientific Committee and Director of Medical Oncology of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, recalled that “preventing does not mean living in anxiety: means knowing your own risks, recognizing the signs and doing the right controls at the right time. Prevention is not only diagnosis: is adoption of healthy behaviors, such as controlling weight, following a balanced and healthy diet, practicing regular physical activity and abolishing smoking, also reducing alcohol consumption. It is an investment on the well-being of your future.” Testimonial LILT of the campaign, Beppe Convertini voiced men who often hesitate to address these themes: “We men are reluctant to make us visit, but prevention is our first ally. Getting on track means taking care of yourself and those who love us. Controlling is not a sign of weakness, but of strength and responsibility.”.
