VATICAN CITY (ITALPRESS) – “I express my deep appreciation for those who, at every level, are committed to building peace in the different regions marked by war. In recent days, we have prayed for the dead and among these unfortunately there are many killed in the fighting and bombings, although they were civilians, children, elderly and sick. If you really want to honor their memory, you cease fire and put every commitment in the negotiations.” Thus Pope Leo at the Angelus, in St. Peter’s Square.
“I am close to the populations of the Philippines affected by a violent typhoon: I pray for the dead and their relatives, for the wounded and the displaced”, adds the Pontiff, recalling that “today the Church in Italy celebrates Thanksgiving Day. I join the message of the Bishops in encouraging responsible care of the territory, the contrast of food waste and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Let us thank God for “your mother earth” (St. Francis, Song of creatures) and for those who cultivate it and keep it!”.
