LONDRA (ITALPRESS) – A joyous machine that never sleeps, which represents our true identity and which perhaps is able to reserve us still many surprises, including its ability to “flower” even in adulthood: it is the human brain in the passionate divulge interpretation of Professor Michela Matteoli, a biologue of the Humanitas Institute of Milan, Sebastian who yesterday evening spoke raptured at the Italian Institute of Culture of London.
Actor of the volume “The blossoming of neurons”, Matteoli faced the controversial issue of neurogenesis, that is, of the brain’s ability to produce neurons and to do so, at least in some areas of the brain, even in more advanced age than what was thought. Neurons, synapses, stems of all kinds, the cells of the glia, that is the helpers of neurons, the tense against dementia and finally the importance of reading and other activities and the incredible wisdom of our grandparents: Matteoli was not spared by illustrating the wonders of a world in part, but not so much, unknown as the one that dwells under our skull and makes us be what we are.
With some hope about one of the most debated and painful themes of a society than a society in which the average age and life expectancy have risen dizzyingly: Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive degeneration. In an age characterized by aggressiveness, Hate Speech and risse on social media, Matteoli recalled that the rule of thinking 10 seconds before speaking, remains not only very current, but also beneficial for our brains and therefore for our lives. The conference of Matteoli is the last of the 2025 cycle of “Italy. Thought, future.” The cycle conceived by Bongarrà and edited by Sebastiani, will resume in 2026.
