ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “HSI investigators who will come to Italy to support the staff already present in the US diplomatic offices are not operational agents and have no executive function. Moreover, they will operate within the US diplomatic offices and therefore will not even be technically on Italian soil. On the basis of that agreement, they always carry out the same type of investigative activity, without the government ever prepared or even hypothesized any changes to their scope of action either for the Olympics or in view of other possible scenarios. And there has never been any proposal or request to amend these activities by the American authorities. We are therefore talking about a completely unfounded polemic.” Thus the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, during the urgent information on the presence of the ICE agents in Milan-Cortina.
“The ICE does not carry out and will never carry out police operations in our national territory. Security and public order are exclusively guaranteed by our Police Forces. And this principle is not contradicted by the profitable investigative collaborations that, usually, are activated internationally under such circumstances,” added Piantedosi.
