ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “I believe that the decision taken by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Bologna to deny the activation of a course of studies for the young officers of the Italian Army is an incomprehensible and gravely wrong act”. Thus premier Giorgia Meloni in a note, underlining that “it is not only an unacceptable choice, but a lesive gesture of the constitutional duties that base the autonomy of the University. The University, as a centre of pluralism and confrontation, has the duty to welcome and value every path of cultural elevation, remaining totally alien to ideological prejudices. This refusal implies a question of the role of the Armed Forces themselves, a fundamental role of defence and security of the Republic, as provided for in the Constitution.”.
According to Meloni, “enriching the training of officials with humanities is a strategic factor that further qualifies the service they make to the state. It is precisely in this perspective of defence and strategic commitment, often in complex international contexts, that preparation cannot be only technical. Having staff trained in humanities also guarantees that depth of analysis, vision and essential side thinking to address the challenges that the armed forces are entrusted to. A complete preparation is a guarantee of professionalism for the entire nation. I personally reaffirm and on behalf of the Government the full and unconditional support for the Army and the armed forces and firmly condemn any attempt to isolate, delegate or break ideological barriers to such a fundamental institutional dialogue for the national interest,” the Prime Minister concludes.
