Meloni meets Mattarella “No clash with the Quirinale, but regret for the words of Garofani”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, went this morning to the Quirinale for a meeting with the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to reiterate “the institutional tune that exists between Palazzo Chigi and the Quirinale, never came less since the settlement of this government and of which no one has ever doubted”. It is what is learned from sources of Palazzo Chigi.

President Meloni expressed his regret to the head of the State “for institutionally and politically inappropriate words pronounced in a public context by the Councilor Francesco Saverio Garofani and reported yesterday by a well-known Italian newspaper”. The President of the Council considered that “the request for denial made by Mr Bignami was not an attack on the Quirinale, but rather a way to circumscribe the story to his real context, even to protect Quirinale. It was intended, by the party of a relative majority, to intervene in order to escape any hypothesis of confrontation between two institutions that instead collaborate together for the good of the nation. It was believed that he was the direct interested party, or the Councillor Garofani, to have to clarify, to close the matter immediately.”.

In any case, it is the intention of the President of the Council, with his visit to the Head of State, to point out that there is no institutional confrontation. The meeting allowed the President of the Council to confront the head of the state also on the many international dossiers open for his participation in the G20 in Johannesburg and the European Union-African Union conference in Angola.
