ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, received at Palazzo Chigi the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas. During the interview, the Prime Minister reiterated the need to consolidate the ceasefire and initiate the stabilisation and reconstruction of Gaza, proceeding quickly with the full implementation of President Donald Trump’s Peace Plan, also through the disarmament of Hamas that will not have any role in the future of the Palestinian people.
The President of the Council has also highlighted the strong and constant Italian commitment both in humanitarian assistance to the civilian population – through the Food for Gaza initiative, medical evacuations and the “university corridor” – both in the formation of police forces and in the process of reforms of the Palestinian Authority.
At the end of the meeting, in reiterateing the need to work on a lasting political solution on the basis of the perspective of the two States, it was confirmed that the Italian Government, even on the basis of the priorities indicated by the Palestinian Authority, is working on a package of humanitarian aid and reconstruction to be presented at the Conference on Gaza which Egypt intends to convene.
