Johnson & Johnson celebrates 50 years in Italy and presents the White Paper

LATINA (ITALPRESS) – Fifty years of investment, research and collaboration with the healthcare system, the scientific world and local communities: Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine celebrates its anniversary in Italy with the Italian Health and Care Forum, an initiative that brought together representatives of institutions and the health world.

On the occasion of the initiative, the President of the Council Giorgia Meloni sent a greeting message to the managing director of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Italy, Jacopo Murzi, and to all participants. In his speech he recalled the value of the milestone reached by the company: “Fifty years represent a significant milestone and tell a story of investments, research and collaboration with the healthcare system, the scientific world and local communities.” A story that, he added, shows “how the ability to look to the future can be translated into concrete value for Italy and in new opportunities for care for citizens”.

President Meloni recalled the role of the pharmaceutical industry for Italy: “This government has always recognized in the pharmaceutical industry one of the driving sectors of Made in Italy”. A sector in which “scientific research, advanced technologies and industrial capacity contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Italy and its strategic autonomy”. In 2025, he recalled, “the Italian pharmaceutical production reached 74 billion euros and exports exceeded 69 billion”. Results that, he observed, “constitute the squeeze to do even more and better, in the attraction of investments and in the valorization of national excellence”.

In the message, Meloni stressed that “the value of the pharmaceutical goes well beyond economic and industrial results”: it is measured in the ability to contribute to the progress of medicine, make available therapies more effective and improve the quality and expectation of people’s lives. He then reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthen the National Health Service and to ensure the right to health enshrined in our Constitution, pointing out that the resources of the National Health Fund have grown since the beginning of the legislature and that the budgetary law provides additional appropriations, up to 146,3 billion euros in 2027.

The President of the Council also recalled the need to ensure access to care and respond to the needs of a population that ages and lives longer with chronic diseases. The challenge, he said, is “to combine appropriateness, equity of access and responsible use of resources, recognizing the value of new therapies as an investment in the health of citizens”. A central passage of the message was dedicated to the new Single Text of Pharmaceutical Legislation, which the Government works to define “to simplify the regulatory system and put a strategic sector for health and competitiveness in the conditions of maximising its potential”. A more organic and up-to-date framework, Meloni explained, will “make programming, accelerate access to innovation, offer greater certainty to operators, strengthen conditions to attract new investments in Italy and create greater employment”.

In conclusion, the President thanked “all who are engaged daily in research, laboratories, production facilities, clinical centers and pharmaceutical services”. And he addressed Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine the wish “that the next fifty years are characterized by new scientific goals, further investments in Italy and an increasingly profitable collaboration with our healthcare system, in the interests of citizens and the growth of the nation”.

During the meeting was presented the White Paper “50 years of future”, realized with the patronage of Farmindustria and Remind and edited by Adelis. The volume retraces the contribution of the company and the health system in Italy, with a look at the perspectives of research, innovation and collaboration between public and private.
