PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – A Maltese delegation composed of seven surgeons, an anexistentist, two nephrologists and two pediatricians, together with some officials of the Government of Malta and at the top of the Mater Dei Hospital, the largest hospital in La Valletta, arrived in Ismett with the aim of deepening the best practices of the Center in transplant medicine and treatment paths with high complexity.
The visit is part of an active collaboration for over 14 years, which has produced excellent results and has helped to consolidate a virtuous model of health integration in the Mediterranean basin. The comparison confirmed the role of Ismett as a hub of high specialization and transfer of skills, able to promote shared clinical standards and transnational welfare networks.
During the course of the 2 days, the delegation visited the departments and will meet the clinical and organizational teams of the Institute, with a focus on advanced technologies, multidisciplinary protocols, taking charge of the patient and welfare continuity. Technical sessions will explore key themes of contemporary transplantation, including perfusion techniques in donor-heart withdrawals, and liver transplantation in pediatric age.
“The relationship between Ismett and Malta – said Angelo Luca, director of Ismett – is founded on 14 years of continuous collaboration that, over time, has guaranteed highly specialized care and life-saving interventions to numerous Maltese patients, contributing at the same time, thanks to the donation of organs of Maltese citizens, to offer new possibilities of care also to Sicilian patients with organ failure in terminal phase”.
“This visit – continues Angelo Luca – confirms the depth of the bond that unites us and represents an operational opportunity to define the next steps of cooperation: the direct comparison between professionals is the engine that allows us to constantly elevate quality and safety standards of transplants, for the benefit of patients across the Mediterranean.”.
Ismett, a centre of high specialization and research affiliated to UPMC, confirms its commitment to promoting training-oriented partnerships, clinical innovation and improving the healing experience.
“Today’s meeting in ISMETT has a meaning that goes beyond the numbers and beyond the clinical dimension – says Giacomo Scalzo, Managing Director of Regional Health Department –. The presence of the Maltese delegation recognizes a high complexity health model that puts the person in the center, first of all: listening, welcoming, clarity in communication, continuity of care. In ISMETT the most advanced technology and programs of excellence do not replace the human relationship, but make it stronger. Because innovation has value only if it helps to better care, more securely and more accessible. This is the message we share today, a health that unites international cooperation and quality of care, in full respect of the dignity of each person”.
