In Rome inaugurated 3 poles of recruitment of donors of bone marrow

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Inaugurated three poles of recruitment of donors of bone marrow at the transfusion centers of Sant’Andrea, San Filippo Neri and Santo Spirito in Sassia (Rome, Salone del Commendatore, ASL Rm1 – Borgo Santo Spirito 3), a step forward to recruit an ever greater number of donors.

“We have a problem of donation, people have difficulty giving when they die, let alone in life, we have to deal with what is a difficult reality,” said the president of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, speaking at the press conference ‘Progetto Poli di recruitmento di midollo osseo donatori’. “How can we change this mentality? I think this is the big challenge and much can do the third sector. I’m trying to do anything to reverse this feeling of distrust that exists with politics, but the fact is that, probably, the third sector can play a fundamental role in spreading, communication. We must facilitate the action of the third sector, we must support it,” he said.

Admo, the Association of bone marrow donors, remembers that the donation of bone marrow is not a risky practice, young people between 18 and 35 years can enroll in the register easily, with a small blood sampling and then donate the marrow, only in case of compatibility, even from the vein of an arm. “With Admo there is a historical collaboration – the words of Giuseppe Quintavalle, general manager Asl Roma1 –. We have 40% of family patients who do not have a compatible donor, in the light of this data, a project like what we present today is fundamental. A new culture of territory is about to be born, there is no community house that will work well if there are no hospitals that work well. We can save millions of people and we are working a lot on prevention and vaccination policies.”.

The president of the regional council of Lazio, Antonello Aurigemma recalled that “with the inauguration of this network it is shown that there is the policy that listens and volunteers and associations play an active role. Donation is not only a health gesture but an act of great responsibility, an act that has a high sense of sensitivity to others.”.

ROCCA “FORMARE GIOVANI PER DIFFONDERE CULTURA DONAZIONE”

“We have launched the idea of forming motivated young people who, in turn, can contaminate, enter schools, universities to spread the culture of donation, explain how important it is to donate.” This was said by the president of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, on the margin of the presentation of the ‘Poly Project of recruitment of donors of bone marrow’.

AURIGEMMA “PASSO SIGNIFICATIVO”

“The inauguration of the new recruitment poles of bone marrow donors at the Transfusion Centers of Sant’Andrea Hospitals, San Filippo Neri and Santo Spirito in Sassia represents a significant step forward for the health of Lazio and the entire regional community.” The president of the Regional Council of Lazio, Antonello Aurigemma, today intervened at the official opening of the new structures dedicated to the typization and recruitment of potential donors, at the Salone del Commendatore della Asl Rm1. “These poles – continues Aurigemma – allow to increase the accessibility to donation, facilitating the meeting between citizens and healthcare professionals who daily strive to ensure quality services. Giving bone marrow means offering a concrete possibility of life to those who face serious blood disorders. It is a gesture of extraordinary generosity and responsibility towards our neighbour.”.

Aurigemma also expressed his thanks to the staff of the transfusion centres, the Regional Health Centre, health management and voluntary associations involved in raising awareness: “Your work is fundamental. Without the commitment of doctors, nurses, technicians and volunteers, who every day inform, accompany and sensitize, all this would not be possible. The Region and institutions must be at your side, supporting those who contribute to making the system stronger and closer to citizens.”.

“The opening of the new poles – the President concludes – is not only a strengthening of services, but a message: Lazio invests on prevention, solidarity and the network that unites institutions, health and citizens. We will continue to work to ensure more efficient organizational models and to promote the culture of donation, precious heritage of our community.”.
