PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – AIFA and ARS together with Palermo for the event “The Roadmap of Appropriateness: the precision medicine between innovation and regional practice”. An initiative of dialogue between Agency and regions, through two panels that have enabled us to take stock of the use of data and innovation in therapeutic decisions, as well as the common strategy that at regional level can lead to a correct and sustainable use of the drug to its fair access. The President of the ARS, Gaetano Galvagno, who brought to the attention of the audience the importance of the regional role to the challenge of precision medicine: “With regard to health, the virtuous means is appropriateness, a balance between the need to ensure access to citizens to the best care and the responsibility to preserve the national health system – said Galvagno – . Sicily is also called to the challenge of precision medicine and the need not to remain back race to innovation that must be absolutely coordinated with interlocutions at all levels.”.
“The institutional place where you play this game for the future of Sicilians is also the regional assembly, called to translate into regional laws the national indications on advanced pharmacotherapies,” he added. The Vice-President of the Chamber, Giorgio Mulé, explained how medicine 5.0 is “fundamental to solve a cultural problem present in this country” all “building a screening system that precedes the excellence of precision medicine”. “O we have the ability to make screening – Mulè continued – or precision medicine will not be enough, despite being an exceptional fly for national medicine. We can and must talk about this if we have the ability to build a screening system that precedes the excellence of precision medicine.” To take the floor also President AIFA, Robert Giovanni Nisticò, who also insisted on innovation and sustainability of the pharmaceutical system: “Pharmaceutical spending is growing so we need to work on tools that can also hone control and prescriptions for our patients – he said –. Italy is a longevity country, where many drugs are used, but where perhaps more prevention and attention should be paid to the prescribed appropriateness”.
“In the centre, the theme of prescriptomy, i.e. the interaction with tools such as algorithms and data to ensure that patients are centralized in their complexity and uniqueness through the integration of basic science data. If we can bring more and more these innovative tools – he says – we will be able to protect the health of patients and contain pharmaceutical spending.” On the front of innovation “AIFA must promote research, so that those who produce drugs can do so in the best possible way. The use of artificial intelligence is a strong tool for the pharmaceutical industry, and AIFA must accompany this process and understand how it is used by our partners,” said Giovanni Pavesi, Managing Director of AIFA. Finally, the intervention of Marcello Gemmato, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, which reiterated the importance of sustainability in a system in which “there are increasingly placing on the market of drugs impacting from the economic point of view, but which have solved the symptomatic framework of even serious diseases”.
“The collaboration between L’AIFA and the Regions – continues – is fundamental, so a series of interlocutions spread throughout the territory, from Lombardy to Sicily have been imagined. An exercise of AIFA perception towards regions but also towards the scientific and university community. The whole – Gemmato concluded – with the aim of better caring for the citizen, keeping as horizon the sustainability of our system as desired and declined by the constituent fathers in Article 32 of our Constitution.”.
