ROMA (ITALPRESS) – More than 1,100 telephone contacts and 180 women supported by the legal and psychological point of view to help them out of contexts of violence. This is the balance of the activity between March 2023 and October 2025 of the Antiviolence Center “S.O.S. LEI” of the University Policlinico A. Gemelli IRCCS, born thanks to the partnership between Wind Tre, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS and Associazione Assolei. The Centre works in synergy with the Order Forces, with which it collaborates for the drafting of complaints and the search, if necessary, of refugee houses. The data were made known within the conference “From violence to disease: because the fight against gender violence is a matter of public health” today at Policlinico Gemelli, close to the International Day for the elimination of violence against women on 25 November. The initiative is coordinated by the ReviGe Committee (Responded to Genere Violence) born in 2023, a few months after the opening of the Centre and of which several Gemelli experts are part.
In the middle of the morning, the relationship between gender violence and health, with the aim of highlighting how prevention and taking care of women involved represent fundamental elements of public health policies. The session saw the comparison between experts, teachers and specialists, followed by a round table dedicated to collaboration strategies between institutions and associations. Between March 2023 and October 2025, the numbers of the Centre “S.O.S. LEI” confirm the transversal nature of the phenomenon, evidenced by the heterogeneity of the demands for age, origin and social condition. In only 2025, more than 77% of women followed are Italian nationalities, while foreign women continue to encounter greater difficulties in accessing services (23%). Considering the most recent cases, 42.4% are between 18 and 40 years old, 54.3% exceed 40 years and 3% are underage. Alongside the most common forms of physical, psychological and verbal abuse, there are also episodes of digital violence and stalking (3%) and economic violence (13%).
From April 2025, the Centre is also open on Friday morning, as well as the usual Mondays and Wednesdays, thanks to the donations of Wind Tre employees. The internal fundraising, launched by the company at the end of 2024, has allowed us to expand the opening time and ensure timely support for a greater number of women, confirming the shared commitment in contrast to gender violence and promoting cultural change. On the occasion of the conference, Wind Tre also confirmed its support for 2026, to ensure the continuity of opening days in the wake of a concrete commitment to inclusion and equality.
“Ours is a concrete commitment. Supporting the Centre ‘S.O.S. LEI’ means ensuring women a safe and accessible place, where listening and tools to get out of difficult situations – says Cristina Tedeschi, Culture, People Inclusion & Communication Director of Wind Tre –. The extension of opening hours, made possible thanks to the participation of our people, is a strong signal: When a woman asks for help, she must know that someone answers immediately. This initiative shows how fundamental the alliance between companies and institutions such as Policlinico Gemelli is: only by networking we can generate a real and lasting impact. For us inclusion and equality are not abstract principles, but measurable goals that guide every choice.”.
Dalila Novelli, President of Assolei APS, comments: “‘S.O.S. LEI’, managed by us, received a number of calls on the dedicated number of 380 (date to this month of November), recording compared to the two previous years an implementation of requests that in the first year were 360, and in 2024 (second year of opening of the CAV), 377. In addition, in 2025 almost 80% of accesses were received by the Emergency Office or by hospital departments. This result certainly comforts women and provides the awareness that a health institution can support them not only in the wounds of the body but also in a path that can protect them in the future and encourage them to take important decisions. Most of the women welcomed in the Centre are in the age range between 30 and 59 years, but there is a dangerous tendency to increase the demands of girls in the age of 20-29 years. Finally, we record an increase in women of Italian nationality than those from other countries.”.
Daniela Romualdi, Ginecologa del Policlinico Gemelli, adds: “The commitment of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS towards the fight against violence on women grows year by year. It is a real commitment, which translates into concrete actions, and therefore in results. The synergy between the RiViGe Committee, the Antiviolence Centre ‘S.O.S. LEI’, supported by Wind Tre, and Assolei allows us to offer immediate, safe and complete routes. The realization of this year’s event, dedicated to the various and serious medical-sanitary consequences of violence on women, was only possible thanks to the strength of this synergy. In particular, I would like to thank Annarita Palmieri, the campaigns, web and events office, member of the RiViGe committee and Vice-President of Assolei Aps, for the passionate contribution to this initiative. Each brings different skills, but with one goal: transform welcome into protection, and protection into a new beginning.”.
Roberta Galluzzi, Director HR Policlinico Gemelli, concludes: “As Human Resources Management of the University Polyclinic Foundation Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, we strongly confirm our commitment to combat gender violence and concrete support for women who experience vulnerabilities. Our Polyclinic is a place that cares, protects and accompanies, and the Centre ‘S.O.S. LEI’ is a tangible testimony. At the same time, we are investing in structured paths of female empowerment and in the Certification for Gender Parity, because we believe that the protection of women is not exhausted in emergency management, but also passes through real opportunities of growth, autonomy and professional recognition. The culture of respect and dignity guides our every step, inside and outside the hospital.”.
