Health as an instrument of international cooperation, meeting at the Polyclinic Campus Bio-Medic

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In a historical moment marked by global crises and new conflicts, health can be a tool for dialogue, diplomacy and, ultimately, peace. Not only a fundamental right, but a real platform for cooperation. This is the main message of the meeting hosted at the Circolo degli Esteri in Rome and promoted by the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico within the Health and Diplomacy programme, an event that renews the commitment of the Policlinico in the wake of the attention to the person, international collaboration and the construction of relations based on care. The event entitled “Today’s challenges: Health, Diplomacy and Peace” took part in numerous representatives of the academic world and institutions, including Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of Santa Romana Church and Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life, General Inspector of Military Health General Carlo Catalano, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Carlo Parecer.

In addition, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Holy See George Poulides, Ambassador Franco Mistretta, former Director of the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Cyprus and Gambia Domenico Giani, also spoke as speakers. For the Polyclinic Campus Bio-Medico the managing director and general manager Paolo Sormani, the director of the Unit of Emodynamics Gian Paolo Ussia and the director of the program Health and Diplomacy Massimo Maria Caneva. “Health protection can really become a privileged area of collaboration at multiple levels,” said the CEO and DG of the Fondazione Paolo Sormani, who then continued: “As a University Polyclinic we invest a lot in the quality of assistance and technological innovation, but we are also engaged in initiatives that open our hospital to the territory and value the medical profession as a service to the person and the most fragile. Diseases, unfortunately, do not know boundaries. Taking care of the other can create conditions to generate trust, dialogue and in many cases authentic cooperation even on the diplomatic level.”.

“The Health and Diplomacy program of the Bio-Medic Campus is born to connect clinical skills and international relations with a very precise objective: to promote the dignity of the person through global health,” explained Professor Massimo Maria Caneva, project manager of the Foundation. “Transforming care in a common language – added Caneva – means recognizing that no crisis can be faced alone. Even the most complex situations require coordination, mutual respect and multilateral commitment. Meetings like this remind us that cooperation arises from shared confrontation and responsibility.” The event is part of the numerous activities promoted by the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico to foster dialogue between the health and institutions, with particular attention to the person and his needs and his dignity.
