ROMA (ITALPRESS) – With the arrival of autumn bronchi and lungs become more than ever target of different pathologies: the most rigid climate, the increase of moisture and the stay in closed environments in fact favor the diffusion of viruses and bacteria responsible for bronchitis, pneumonia and riacutizations of the Bpco, the chronic obstructive bronchopathy. In the bad season also the risk of viral infections such as influenza and Covid-19, which can severely affect people with chronic diseases or with reduced immune defenses. “The first cold ones decrease the capabilities of the immunological system to defend us from potential aggressors such as viruses, which in this season turn significantly higher than spring and summer”, said Stefano Centanni, ordinary professor of Pneumology at the University of Milan, interviewed by Marco Klinger for Top Medicine, TV format of the Italpress press agency.
Hundreds focus on the importance of vaccines: “This new variant of Covid-19 is very infectious, although it gives less significant symptoms than the terrifying ones of a few years ago: Today’s ones are cold, rauce, cough, fever, sore throat and fatigue. A cold to a healthy and young person gives trivial symptoms, but in patients with chronic-obstructive bronchopathy can be an opportunity for a reacutization of the disease and a worsening of clinical conditions: This year it seems that the symptoms of influenza are quite important, so vaccination should absolutely be done and we must all strive to support vaccination campaigns especially for chronic and elderly patients.” In the cases of the latter, he adds, “these infections can also meet bigger problems such as pneumonia: The conditions of a fragile patient deteriorate significantly when the cough increases and the breathing begins to be missed. It is very important that these subjects should be vaccinated above all: we cannot think of a new social isolation to prevent the spread of influence, of Covid or of the sincidal respiratory virus, but the elderly and fragile subjects when they go in very dense environments of population as metropolitan should wear it.”.
The last part of Centanni’s reflection is dedicated to the rehabilitation phase: “Being active also walking is extremely significant at all ages, to hold important muscle mass in activity such as those of the legs: the training of the lower limbs in rehabilitation programs is fundamental, but the areas of maximum pollution must be avoided; Equally important is the use of foods such as fruit and vegetables, which contain many antioxidants.”.
