ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “For us Roggero has made a mistake. He committed a crime. He’s guilty. He went beyond self-defense, and we have nothing to challenge the judiciary. We don’t attack the sentence. We do not say that it should not be done, but we would be in favour of an act of clemency. Because there was a disproportionate, unpolished reaction of a person who, however, is not a habitual miserable, who acted after having suffered other violent acts like that, who saw his wife and daughter run the risk of being killed, moved by anger, fear, despair.” So the deputypremier and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. “We believe it is a very serious crime that we have killed, we are not for the Far West or private justice. It is the state that must guarantee security, and we are working to the fullest for this. But we are for forgiveness, considering all the particular circumstances of this case, the context, because each case should be evaluated to itself,” he points out.
“We do not ask that the law on self-defense be amended, which seems appropriate to me as it is written. We never thought we’d run it. We are not judiciary, we have always fought for the dignity of life of prisoners and to improve the conditions in which the police officers work. At the same time we are in favour of forgiveness for those who have failed, for obvious reasons and well understood by public opinion,” adds Tajani.
