ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “With Portugal we can do a lot together taking into account our geographical position with a privileged position. An extraordinary strength if we think of the main challenges of this period. Together with Prime Minister Montenegro we decided to relaunch our bilateral collaboration through a document we signed today that allows us to have a more structured relationship.” Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the press after the meeting with the Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic, Luis Montenegro. “This is an opportunity to work more and more on our maritime chains. We want to continue on this path in other strategic sectors,” he added. “We also discussed the possibility of starting close collaboration in Africa,” Meloni stressed.
“It is the beginning of a new page of a collaboration already very solid and profitable. We decided to relaunch our 360 degree bilateral cooperation and make dialogue even more stable and structured,” he added.
“I am very happy with the decision of the Portuguese authorities to buy three frigates Evo built by Fincantieri. It is a recognition of the excellence of the Italian industry, but also the demonstration that Europe can strengthen its autonomy by investing in the industrial and technological capacities that have its companies,” said the premier.
“With Prime Minister Montenegro we also focused on the main international dossiers, reaffirming our support for Ukraine and the commitment to working together with our European and Atlantic partners for a just and lasting peace. On Iran we shared the need to pursue every effort for a de-escalation. Our concern for what we see coming from the region is strong. Our commitment is maximum, especially on the issue of freedom of navigation which, for two marine nations like ours, is an absolutely straightforward element.”.
“We have dedicated a part of our comparison to collaboration on the European dossiers. In particular, we focused on the negotiation of the next multiannual budget. Italy and Portugal share the belief that the future multiannual financial framework must be at the height of the new challenges that Europe is called to face, but without questioning policies that always represent the heart of the European project and I obviously mention the Pac and the Cohesion Policy that are not from our point of view regimes of the past but presupposed for growth, for competitiveness and for strategic autonomy”.
With Prime Minister Montenegro “we have also discussed the issue of the government of migration flows. We are convinced that it is necessary to continue to strengthen the external dimension and work to go to the origin of the causes of migration. Also on this I think there are important margins of cooperation”.
