SIRACUSA (ITALPRESS) – It officially takes the path “PTE Smart”, the project developed by the Syracuse Asp for the technological strengthening of the Territorial Presidents of Emergency (P.T.E.) of Pachino, Rosolini and Palazzolo Acreide. The project is the result of an investment of 255 thousand euros allocated by the Sicilian Region with the last Financial on an amendment tabled by regional deputies Riccardo Gennuso and Tiziano Spada. The new system, with the use of state-of-the-art biomedical equipment and telemedicine redefines emergency services in hospitals distant from hospitals, in favor of proximity health, with the aim to drastically reduce intervention times in cases of suspected acute myocardial infarction. The initiative was presented in the premises of the PTE di Pachino in contrada Cozzi by the extraordinary commissioner of the Asp of Syracuse Gioacchino Iraci together with the health director Salvatore Madonia, the director of the company information systems Santo Michele Pettignano and the clinical engineer Salvatore Maugeri who demonstrated the effectiveness and usefulness of the introduced equipment and the telemedicine system connected to them. Present are the honourable signatory of the amendment, the mayors of the Municipalities of Pachino, Rosolini and Portopalo together with representatives of the Joints and Municipal Councils, the Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Committee Salvo Sorbello, representatives of the associations of the territory, medical directors and staff of the emergency area of the hospitals, the territorial, technical and administrative area. The extraordinary commissioner of the Asp of Syracuse Gioacchino Iraci, after bringing greetings and compliments of the prefect of Syracuse, has evidenced how in the urgent cardiology the time factor is decisive to limit the damage to the heart tissue. “With this reorganization – he pointed out the extraordinary commissioner – the Emergency Territorial Presidents evolve from points of first contact to active diagnostics of the emergency network, ensuring a concrete and life-saving response also to the geographically distant communities from the hospitals.” The effectiveness of the new welfare network is based on the integration of three specific biomedical technologies for the management of cardiovascular pathologies: multiparametric monitors with digital electrocardiographs and defibrillators that allow the sending of real-time traces to the coronary intensive therapy of the hospital Umberto I in Syracuse for immediate referral. At the same time, the adoption of POCT rapid analyzers for high sensitivity troponin testing allows to obtain biochemical responses in a few minutes. The framework of the equipment is completed by the automatic heart massagers with a radiant chest strap, devices that guarantee the continuity of compressions in exchange for the human operator, increasing the patient’s safety during emergency transfers. The operation of this equipment was carried out during the morning of a practical demonstration on the field conducted by engineer Salvatore Maugeri, SIFA Operation Unit and Corporate Management Control. The design system and operating flows have already received a national recognition, as illustrated by the Director of SIFA and Management Control, Santo Pettignano. The initiative was in fact awarded the best scientific project at the recent conference of the Italian Association of Clinical Engineering in the category dedicated to the reingegnerization of processes and operational flows, redefined as a territorial technological pretriage for the integrated management of acute myocardial infarction. In the clinical and emergency management profile, the Director of Anesthesia and Reanimation of the Hospital Umberto I Francesco Oliveri explained that the availability of a technology for immediate diagnosis on the territorio is a key precision tool to optimize the time and modes of the subsequent transfer to the hospital. The head of the Unit of Coronary Intensive Therapy of the Syracuse Hospital Giovanni De Velli, also acting on behalf of the Director of the Department of Emergency Marco Contarini, confirmed that the project represents a significant milestone for the coverage of peripheral emergencies, approaching therapeutic standards to areas distant from hospital centers. The implementation of the new PTE welfare network is the result of a path of institutional collaboration, made possible by the amendment promoted at regional level. Spada stressed the transversal nature of the political intervention, which saw the institutions converge in support of the healthcare company to respond to the needs of the population. With regard to the genesis of the project, Gennuso stressed that this initiative has no political colour except the interest in the health of citizens. -photo press office Asp Syracuse-(ITALPRESS).
