ROMA (ITALPRESS) – With the autumn season at the doorstep, the Italian Pharmaco Agency communicates the list of vaccines authorized for the flu campaign 2026-2027. There are 9 vaccines authorized by AIFA and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for immunization against seasonal influence. As every year, the authorisation concerns updating viral strains on the basis of antigenic characteristics of circulating strains in the last season, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Agency monitors the safety of vaccines and, through the National Network of Pharmacovigilance (RNF) with the support of the Regional Centers of Pharmacovigilance (CRFV), collects and analyzes the reports of suspicious adverse reactions from healthcare professionals and citizens. The data are also shared with the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to ensure coordinated monitoring at European level.
The Ministry of Health, in the Circular “Prevention and control of influence: recommendations for the 2026-2027 season” of 23 June 2026, recommends “conducting regional flu vaccination campaigns from the beginning of October (40th week of the year) and offer vaccination to eligible people at any time of the flu season, even if they are lagging for vaccination or if they report having already had one or more episodes. This may be particularly important if it is a late flu season or when there are patients at risk.”.
The vaccination is recommended and offered actively and free of charge to all those who are 60 years old, to pregnant women and postpartum, to children between 6 months and 6 years, to those who are suffering from diseases that expose to a greater risk of complications in case of influence, to persons admitted to long-term structures, to members of high-risk people of complications, to public services of primary collective interest (such as doctors and health care providers) Not all authorized vaccines are necessarily available on the market. The Regions annually decide, through competitions for the supply, among the products available on the market, those that will be used during the vaccination campaigns for the free offer to the National Health Service.
