Agostiniani (SIP) “Pediatri committed on vaccines and conscious use of digital”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The importance of vaccinations, the regulation of the use of social and internet in general, the role and importance of Italian pediatrics in the world and the appointment with the Italian congress scheduled at the end of May in Padua. These are some of the themes addressed by Rino Agostiniani, president of the Italian Society of Pediatry (SIP) in an interview with Italpress. “The vaccinations are one of the most powerful preventive medicine tools that science has been able over the years to build. They protect themselves from many diseases. The vaccination avoids six deaths per minute in the world, so this should really reflect on the importance of proper adherence to vaccination indications in our country,” says Agostiniani. “As for the paediatric age we have good answers, although with regional differences that make us reflect on how much we can still work to improve these covers, while there is a lot to work to improve roofing in the teenage age, a age in which coverage rates towards important diseases do not arrive, and which are distant from those that are the recommended covers,” he adds. On what to do to affect vaccinations more, the president of the Sip observes: “I think the best strategy is to have a good communication with parents, with families and also with boys. The role that the pediatrician can play in this sense is really decisive, because it is the figure that takes care of girls and children from the very first years of life and accompanies them throughout their growth path. I think very much in the role that the pediatrician can have as he who guides the whole family in the most appropriate choices in terms of health”. Another theme, more and more current, is the link between minors and digital world. “We are extremely aware of the relevance of this issue that is extending rapidly. In November we made a meeting in the Senate entitled ‘The child digitis, to underline the risks and dangers resulting from an exposure too early and too prolonged to digital instruments, dividing what can happen in the very first periods of life from what can happen in the preadolex and adolescent age. Our recommendations also go in the sense of having very strict rules, like no cellular under two years, because there is a clear scientific demonstration that this causes a delay in the development of language. Then a progressively wider use, but always accompanied, with the invitation not to give a smartphone with the possibility of internet access in an autonomous way before the 13 years of age,” notes Agostiniani, emphasizing then as “the frequency on social media has important repercussions on school learning, on the organization of one’s life, with an emphasis on the phenomena of depression, sleep disorders, up to reach a true and proper dependence on the ability that undoubtedly affects children The next National Congress will be an opportunity to address a whole range of topics and important reflections on lifestyles. This is because “the greatest determining health for the individual are the lifestyles that it puts in place, beginning with the first thousand days, that is from the beginning of pregnancy up to two years of life. There are studies that make us understand how what is put in place in this period, how behaviors, as relationships with the environment, is able to determine through so-called epigenetic mechanisms what will be not only the duration of the individual’s life, but also its longevity”. But “we will also talk about the ruthe holo of Italian pediatrics in the world, as we will talk about the sustainability of our health service and new technologies that allow to improve the capacity of assistance in extremely serious diseases”, concludes Agostiani.(ITALPRESS). -Photo: Italpress-
