A private jet with nine people on board crashed into a residential neighborhood in Florida

On Sunday, November 1, a small private jet crashed into a residential neighborhood of Palm Beach County, Florida, causing the death of all nine people on board. The U.S. Secretary of Transport confirmed it, Sean Duffy. Some videos taken by motorists show the plane to quickly lose altitude, crash near a road and cause a great explosion. At the moment, there are no victims among the people on the ground.

The incident occurred around 12:50, local time, along Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North, not far from West Palm Beach. The plane was a Learjet 60, a bimotor jet from Austin Airport, Texas, and headed to North Eleuthera, Bahamas. The impact caused a fire and left a large crater on asphalt.

A few minutes before the crash, during communication with air traffic control, the pilot reported the formation of ice on the plane and moderate turbulence, asking to rise of altitude. Shortly thereafter he launched a “Mayday”, communicating that the jet was rapidly losing altitude. The last words recorded by the cabin were: “We have no more time.”.

The causes of the accident have not yet been ascertained. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the two federal agencies responsible for air safety and accident investigations, are examining what happened. Meanwhile, around 600 residents of the area were evacuated from their homes.
