“A life to win cancer”, in Bari the presentation of Schittulli’s book

BARI (ITALPRESS) – “A life to win cancer”, the book published by Adda Editore, which traces the life of the breast- surgeon, oncologo Bari Francesco Schittulli, was presented at the Chamber of Commerce of Bari. Over 250 people have crowded the large hall entitled “Sandro Ambrosi” for a much more than literary event, which has touched the most significant stages of the life and career of the national president of LILT, the Italian League for the Fight against Tumori, in the story of the same protagonist, interviewed by writer and journalist Danilo Quinto. While on the screen behind him there was a selection of significant images extracted from the pages of the volume, Schittulli, born in Gravina in Puglia, spoke of his “humilial” origins, of the scientific formation obtained in the high school Scacchi in Bari, of the almost “casuale” choice to undertake the studies in Medicine, and of the personal and professional relationship with his master, the oncologist Umberto Veronesi, passing through the political engagement in the name Bari “ When I received the request of Professor Schittulli to host the presentation of his book here, at the Chamber of Commerce of Bari, I was moved – confessed Lucia Di Bisceglie, president of the Chamber Office – As the first woman president of this Ente in over 140 years, I warmly thank Professor Schittulli for the attention he addresses to the health of us women”. Numerous estimation messages addressed to Schittulli and read by the director of La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, Mimmo Mazza, who moderated the presentation. But even more numerous were the testimonies brought in person by the participants in the evening. Like that of the newly elected president of the Apulia Region, Antonio Decaro, just returned from Brussels, who told his experience as son of an oncological patient, operated by professor Schittulli many years ago, when appointing cancer was frightened and we talked about “bad evil”. Adding that “from the Mayor of Bari I could admire the courage and resilience as a motivator of the LILT, who manages to reach with his own activities even the most distant and peripheral places of the cities, where the public health system struggles to arrive”. In the course of the evening, also the greetings of the deputy mayor of Bari, Giovanna Iacovone, of the Diacono Giuseppe De Serio, Deputy Director Diocesan Office for the Pastoral Care of Health, delegate of H.E. Mons. Giuseppe Satriano, Archbishop of Bari – Bitonto, of General Paolo Dalle Vedove, commander of the Pinerolo Brigade of the Italian Army. And the video messages of Al Bano, the first testimonial of the LILT Nazionale, Elisabetta Gregoraci, Ambassador LILT of the campaign October Rosa, and Beppe Convertini, testimonial of the campaign LILT Blue Tape. In preview, then, the master goldsmith Gerardo Sacco showed the artistic creation given today to Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the most important contemporary artists still living, on the occasion of the national congress LILT on the “Humanization of the Cures of the Oncological Sick” in course of course in Lecce. And, surprisingly, Master Sacco gave Schittulli a work depicting the good Samaritan, a symbol of gratitude for his professional commitment, for his great humanity. The reference to the great human qualities of Schittulli, recurring in the words of the speakers, was the heart of the introduction entrusted to Danilo Quinto, writer and journalist, and “co-author” of the book, who wanted to emphasize how “A life to win cancer” represents a sort of “celebration in life” of the bare luminaire. Impeccable the organization of the evening, edited by the LILT Metropolitan City of Bari, present with the president Vita Buongiorno, the general manager Marisa Cataldo, the health director Gianni Izzi, the doctors, the administrative staff and a small army of volunteers. During the evening, over 100 copies of the book were sold, and signed by the author, whose proceeds were donated entirely to LILT Bari. The next presentation event of “A life to win cancer” will take place on Monday, December 15 in Putignano. The LILT Bari, engaged every day to spread the oncological prevention through its equipped clinic of Corso Italia (Church area of the Redeemer), is already working for the next initiative “in the city” dedicated to free screening (visits and instrumental examinations) that, in collaboration with the Municipality of Bari, will be held Friday 19 and Saturday 20 December in Piazza Massari. -photo press release book presentation –(ITALPRESS).
