Cortei, Piantedosi “No repression, the right to manifest is guaranteed”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Until when there will be demonstrations I will be here, precisely because the right to manifest is an integral part of democratic life and will always be guaranteed. What concerns us is the recurring attempt of organized fringes to exploit the parades to feed tensions, cause accidents and create disorders. This is what we will continue to keep the attention high, through a prevention activity that our police forces carry out daily with great professionalism and that, if it allows me, it is beginning to produce its effects.” The Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, said this in an interview with the “Corriere della Sera”, about the recent protests that affected the whole country against the dear-life. “It is a matter of constant and particularly articulated prevention – he explained – which is based on information work, risk analysis and close coordination between the various joints of the security system. The hundreds of preventive stops and searches that, on the basis of concrete elements, police forces are carrying out under the coordination of the judicial authority are the main elements of the increasing results so far obtained to prevent accidents.” On the accusations addressed to the government of wanting to suppress dissent, Piantedosi is clearly: “Since the beginning of this season, no event has been prohibited, we have also allowed those that had not been previously authorized. Despite the hundreds of thousands of people who went to the square, there is almost no manifesto wounded unlike representatives of law enforcement. Every hypothesis of repression seems to me at least imaginative. It seems to me, rather, that sometimes it tends to confuse, even instrumentally, the sacred right to manifest with the claim of being able to act violent or contrary to the law. These are two deeply different things. Police forces do not intervene to repress opinions, but to prevent crimes and ensure the safety of all, starting with those who manifest peacefully. And I think this distinction should be shared heritage.”.
