Mattarella “Contrasting drug crime networks is the duty of every state”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Prevention, care and reintegration have long been among the commitments made in the European and multilateral spheres in relation to a topic, that of dependencies, of stringent topicality. It is significant that many countries and institutions have chosen to meet on the initiative of Italy and France, to confront each other, responding to a challenge that invests public health, cohesion of our societies, security, quality of democratic coexistence. Criminal networks that organize drug trafficking do not know boundaries. Contrastarle with rigor is the duty of every State and the entire international community.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message on the occasion of the international meeting organized by the European Coalition against Employees at the Community of San Patrignano.

“The question of these substances arises, like other forms of dependence – from alcoholism to ludopathies, to new digital dependencies – in social discomfort, isolation, fear of the future, especially among younger generations,” he adds. “No national system, however effective, is enough for itself. Cooperating between countries means first of all consolidating a common, constant and lasting commitment as what characterizes this place. Here, as in so many therapeutic communities, in public services, in voluntary associations that work alongside schools and families in Europe, a daily recovery work takes place, with the work, training, solidarity and patience of those who accompany in a difficult journey. The gratitude of the Republic goes to those in Italy and abroad are engaged in this precious work as well as in international cooperation in the contrast to drug trafficking and other criminal phenomena,” the head of the State concludes.
