From Roche and San Raffaele a new service of analysis report in pharmacy

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – An analysis carried out in pharmacy through a simple capillary withdrawal from the finger ends with a valid medical report, signed by the Laboratory of the San Raffaele Hospital and returned in real time to the citizen in pharmacy. This is the novelty of the project “Refertation Analysis in Pharmacy. Pharmacy and Hospital Laboratory – Together for a new integrated path: Close. Quick. Validated.”, born from the partnership between Roche Diagnostics and IRCCCS Ospedale San Raffaele and presented in a press conference that saw the participation of Federfarma, the Federation of Orders of Italian Pharmacists (FOFI), the Italian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (SIPMeL) and Cittadinanzattiva. This new pharmacy analysis report service, launched after a pilot phase in five pharmacies between Lombardy and Piedmont, will now be available in pharmacies that will adhere to the project across the national territory, whose list, constantly updated, will be available on www.quipuoi.com.Attually the analyses proposed in this new service include the monitoring of the lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides prevention) for the evaluation of the They also understand the dosage of C-reactive protein (PCR) to promptly identify any inflammatory states. This analysis report service realizes a new integrated health model that is based on the synergistic collaboration of the two actors enabled by the technology infrastructure of Roche Diagnostics: it combines the capillarity of the network of pharmacies – the first territorial preside fundamental to intercept latent health needs – and the centrality of the hospital laboratory as the only guarantor of the governance of the clinical data. A service, the one presented during today’s conference, designed as a concrete support for prevention as it allows early identification of risk factors related to certain pathologies and the consequent orientation towards any clinical insights carried out in specialized centers at the discretion of the attending physician. The shared protocol and hospital validation provided by this new service guarantee the quality of analysis and reliability of the report. The complementarity between the actors involved is the strength of this integrated path that supports a sustainable development of our health system: the pharmacy is the access point near the citizen – it can act as the first territorial filter to optimize the territory-hospital flows; the laboratory maintains the clinical responsibility by validating the results and guarantees the quality of the clinical data; the technological infrastructure acts as a bridge between the two presidents, allowing the citizen to receive – in the pharmacy closest to the medical service “The real innovation in health is not only about technologies, but the ability to build new models of assistance starting from the clinical needs of citizens – said Federico Esposti, Strategic Director of the IRCS Hospital San Raffaele -. It is from this vision that the collaboration with Roche Diagnostics was born, which allowed us to bring the quality and skills of the hospital laboratory closer to people. The San Raffaele guarantees the supervision of the entire route and the clinical validation of the contacts, contributing to a new model of integrated health, accessible and proximity”. “The collaboration between San Raffaele, pharmacies and Roche connects clinical skills, territorial proximity and innovation – continued Massimo Locatelli, Director of Laboratory Medicine Service, IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele -. The new modelthe reference translates this synergy into an integrated path that, thanks to the capillarity of pharmacies, approaches prevention to citizens and simplifies its access, without sacrificing the quality and reliability of laboratory analysis. A model that also expresses a mentality that recognizes in the collaboration between actors of the health ecosystem an indispensable element in transforming innovation brought by industry into a tangible contribution to the sustainable development of assistance”. In pharmacy, where the analysis materially takes place, professional diagnostic devices and NPT (Near Patient Testing) certificates from Roche comply with European IVDR regulations are used. After that, the data collected by the pharmacist is transmitted immediately, through the digital platform that Roche provides to the pharmacy, to the laboratory of the San Raffaele Hospital that tests its quality and validates the results. After the digital signature of the Laboratory Manager, the report is returned to the pharmacy, and therefore to the citizen, in real time. Throughout the analysis, the pharmacy follows the protocol prepared by the San Raffaele Hospital, which also provides for the execution of quality controls and is guaranteed by a computer system that prevents examinations without following the defined steps. The pharmacy can help identify risk factors of certain pathologies, providing important information to the doctor to outline the most appropriate diagnostic path. “Decentralization of health requires rigorous diagnostic reliability and with the pilot project of ‘Refertation Analysis in Pharmacies’ we combine the proximity of pharmacies to clinical supervision of the San Raffaele Hospital, guaranteeing high standards and valid reports in real time. We want to value the territory as a key role for the prevention and sustainability of the healthcare system,” said Ramiro Pena, Healthcare Development Director at Roche Diagnostics Italia. The model proposed by this new analysis reference service is part of the development of the Pharmacy of Services in Italy: the proximity of the pharmacy is accompanied by the clinical validation of the hospital laboratory and the role of the pharmacist in decentralized analysis paths is enhanced. In line with the FOFI-FNOB understanding protocol for the strengthening of the diagnostic network on the territory, the pharmacy is confirmed as an increasingly integrated healthcare system. “Prevention starts from the territory and pharmacists play a key role in early identification of cardiometabolic risk factors, making health controls more accessible to citizens – commented Andrea Mandelli, FOFI President. A concrete commitment to reduce the impact of chronicity on patients and healthcare. This project confirms the value of the proximity of pharmacists and the ability of our profession to combine the accessibility of services with high quality and safety standards, according to a rigorous operational protocol shared with the hospital and thanks to the support of technology. A priority for us pharmacists and a guarantee for citizens: quick and reliable examinations, with clinically validated results remotely, to guide patients towards diagnostic insights and necessary treatment paths.” The partnership between Roche Diagnostics and Ospedale San Raffaele thus proposes an integrated health model and proximity, in which hospital, laboratory and pharmacy, thanks to technology, work on the net to offer citizens a reliable, understandable and near-home analysis. “Advancing assistance to citizens means making health routes more accessible, simple and timely. The project born from the collaboration between territorial pharmacies, the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and Roche is a concrete exampleof how innovation can favour new models of assistance, capable of integrating the skills of the specialist laboratory with the capillarity of pharmacies – explained Antonio Antico, President SIPMeL -. In this way, the industry’s contribution is essential to bring innovative technologies and solutions to the approach of prevention services to people, while ensuring clinical, safety and quality of performance. For SIPMeL, the value of this model lies in the ability to build an integrated network between healthcare professionals, hospital facilities, pharmacies and industry, in which each actor contributes with their own skills. It is not a question of replacing the specialist laboratory, but of extending its value on the territory, making proximity prevention an increasingly concrete response to the health needs of citizens”. “Today the legislation allows to carry out first instance examinations in pharmacy whose results are useful for the prevention and monitoring of the health and which are carried out with appliances and procedures in accordance with the safety and efficacy standards. We look confidently at an extension of the service, through the introduction of telerefertal tests, as already happens for ECGs and holter made in pharmacy and remotely reported by the specialist”, added Clara Mottinelli, National Treasurer of Federfarma. “The challenge for a citizen-friendly health is to give the latter increasingly close, reliable and integrated services. Avoiding that it should be directed alone in the healthcare system is the real innovation. In all this lies the added value of this project that integrates pharmacy, hospital laboratory and health professionals, offering the citizen not a simple outcome, but a clinically validated report, helping to avoid repeated access, duplication and fragmentation of the health path. It is not enough to multiply the access points to health: we must build integrated paths between professionals and services, able to accompany people without leaving them alone. This experimentation is also an opportunity for the health system, because it can be translated into more appropriate answers, greater continuity of care and equity in access,” concluded Maria Vitale, Head of Urban Health Programmes.
