ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Technological innovation, artificial intelligence and collaboration between the different emergency-emergency systems were at the centre of the meeting dedicated to the theme “Shared Intelligence in the Rescue”, promoted by ARES 118 Lazio with the involvement of the Emergency Urgence Foundation (FEU). The initiative brought together some of the main realities of the Italian emergency: ARES 118 Lazio, SEUS 118 Sicilia, Azienda Zero Piemonte, AREU Lombardia and AREUS Sardinia, with the participation of the Foundation Emergency Urgence. Also present are representatives of scientific societies and industry associations, including SIIET and SISMAX, witnessing the breadth of the comparison, which involved institutions, health systems, professionals and scientific communities. To open the work was the President of SEUS 118 Sicilia, Riccardo Gabriele Castro, who in his speech has emphasized the value of the comparison between different territorial realities and the need to continue the path of collaboration started with the Charter of Catania. In comparison they took part the General Director of ARES 118, Narciso Mostarda, the General Manager of Azienda Zero Piemonte, Massimo D’Angelo, the Maurizio Menarini for the Foundation Emergency Urgence, the General Manager of AREU Lombardia, Massimo Lombardo, and the General Director of AREUS Sardinia, Angelo Maria Serusi. “When we talk about health emergency – said President Castro – we don’t just talk about organizations, technologies or operational models.
We are talking about people and the need to ensure, at the time of difficulty, a timely, coordinated, competent and appropriate response.” Particular attention has been paid to the role of artificial intelligence and its possible applications in data management, flows and resources, as well as in the support of professionals called daily to operate in emergency systems. “The real challenge is not simply to introduce a new technology – said Castro – but to understand how to use it to make our work even more effective, improve the ability to respond and make available to professionals increasingly advanced tools.” Hence the meaning of the concept of “shared intelligence in the rescue”, which exceeds the technological dimension and includes experience, skills and professional skills. “Artificial intelligence can become really useful when serving collective intelligence – the President of SEUS explained. Not to replace it, but to strengthen it. The intelligence, in our field, is also the experience gained in the field, the ability of an operating power plant to interpret a situation, the competence of a doctor, a nurse, a chauffeur-sufferer and the professionalism of all those who every day guarantee the operation of the emergency network”.
The comparison allowed us to relate different organizational and territorial models, without the search for a single model, but with the aim of sharing experiences, knowledge and possible common paths. “We are not here to determine which experience is better than others – said Castro. We are here to understand what each reality can make available to others. We have different organizational models and different territorial characteristics, but we have a common responsibility: to guarantee citizens an emergency system capable of responding as effectively as possible to their needs.” The meeting is part of the collaboration with the Charter of Catania, with the aim of strengthening the comparison between systems, professionals and scientific communities. “The real innovation is not only what produces something new – Castro concluded. It is also the one that can transform a good experience into common heritage. Continuing this path and strengthening sharing means building together principles, objectives and methods for the emergence of the future.”.
