The route to a Memorandum of Understanding between the Liguria Region and the state of Georgia, with a focus on blue economy, portualità and digital, and the start of a comparison with Delta Air Lines for a possible new connection with Genoa. These are the two themes at the center of the second day of the Liguria Region mission in Georgia (USA), which saw the delegation meet in Atlanta representatives of the state of Georgia and the Metro Atlanta Chamber and, subsequently, accompany the Genoa Airport to the headquarters of the American airline.
The delegation is led by the Chief of Cabinet of the president of the Liguria Region, Admiral Massimiliano Nannini, and includes representatives of Federlogistica, of the Authorities of Harbour System of the Ligurian Sea, University of Genoa, Genoa Airport, Agency in Liguria, Italian Institute of Technology, Liguria International and FILSE.
“The budget of this day is very positive, it was the most important day for the institutional part. With the state of Georgia we continued a path that will lead to the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with Liguria Region. We discussed the themes to be included, including definitely the blue economy, the port of Savannah and the digital part. “The relationship with Delta Air Lines is a path that we have been carrying out for about two years and this meeting represents a further concrete opportunity to discuss possible opportunities for collaboration. We thank the Liguria Region for having involved us in the institutional mission in the United States, which allowed us to meet directly the company and to deepen the perspectives of development of new connections between Genoa and the North American market, also in order to further strengthen the tourist attraction of Liguria. Genoa and Liguria are now increasingly known and appreciated by the North American public and have recently been included among the destinations not to be missed by authoritative international media, including the New York Times and Lonely Planet. It is on this increasing visibility that we intend to build new opportunities for connection and collaboration”, says the General Manager of the Airport of Genoa Francesco D’Amico.
During the day the Ligurian delegation continued its meetings with the economic and innovation system of Atlanta, starting from the visit to Tech Square and the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), a reality dedicated to the support of startups and technological enterprises, with an insight into the possible opportunities for collaboration with Liguria.
The program continued in the county of Gwinnett, with the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and Partnership Gwinnett, for a comparison of the characteristics of the local economy, the presence of international enterprises and the possibility of developing new connections with the Ligurian economic system. At the center of the discussion portualità, logistics and global chains of supply, technology and innovation, advanced manufacturing, water technology, life sciences, startups and tourism.
In the afternoon the delegation reached Emory University for a meeting at The Hatchery, the incubator for innovation and entrepreneurship. The comparison involved innovation, artificial intelligence, health-tech, research and technological transfer, with particular attention to the possibility of developing in 2027 a program aimed at startups and innovative enterprises.
“It was an important opportunity for the University of Genoa to deal with avant-garde reality in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship. We have had the opportunity to know models and skills that can open new perspectives of collaboration, both on the research front and on the exchange of students. It is a first step to build new synergies”, says Agostino Massa, professor of the University of Genoa.
“Today we met two important Chambers of Commerce, the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Gwinnett Chamber, and visited two companies dedicated to technology and incubation. The Ligurian delegation brings to these tables a coordinated action of valorisation of what Region Liguria expresses, and FILSE contributes in particular on the themes of innovation and support to startups, which represent an area of common interest for all the interlocutors met.
