SIRACUSA (ITALPRESS) – The new Motorhome of the ASP was inaugurated this morning at the Rizza Hospital in Syracuse, a mobile company unit intended for the provision of itinerant dental services throughout the province. The initiative is part of “Contrasting Health Poverty”, a project promoted under the National Health Equity Programme (PNES) 2021-2027 with the coordination of the INMP (National Institute for the promotion of the health of migrant populations and for the contrast of poverty diseases). The event kicked off in the training hall, on the second floor of the building at the entrance of the hospital in viale Epipoli 72, where health activities, listening, guidance and prevention services provided through the mobile structure, together with the first stages planned in the provincial territory and the general framework of the design promoted by the Health Company. Afterwards, in the outside area of the hospital, the inauguration and operational start of the vehicle took place, with the blessing given by the parish priest of the hospital Umberto I in Syracuse, brother Gabriel. The institutional moment was presided over by the extraordinary commissioner of the Asp of Syracuse, Gioacchino Iraci, together with the director of the ADISS Department of the District Assistance and of the Integration Socio Sanitaria (ADISS) and president of the Provincial Order of the Medici Chirurghi and the Odontoiatri of Syracuse (OMCeO SRNES), Anselmo Madeddu, and Marine Vèque At the meeting – moderated by Adalgisa Cucè, head of the Operational Unit Information and Communication of the Asp, as well as referent Communication and Health Education for the PNES program – have also taken part in parliamentarians of the territory, mayors, councillors of the social services, the corporate advisory committee, associations involved in the initiatives of proximity and the president of the Order of the Doctors of Syracuse, in addition to the managers and health operators of the PNES/INMP program. Precisely on the most disadvantaged and with economic difficulties Iraci wanted to put attention, in the light of the data of national statistics: “It is an initiative aimed at satisfying dental services which, national statistics say, have been abandoned by a large part of the population due to economic difficulties. And so, in this way, we should allow to reduce the gap between the population with economic difficulties and the rest of the population.” The motorhome will offer a complete service, all the performance that concerns dentistry, including the possibility of getting prostheses. In this initiative, the support of third sector bodies is fundamental: “Important – he has pointed out Iraci – because they will give us the opportunity to support this mission that is not only institutional, but it is a social mission that concerns all our people.” The Director of the Department of Socio-Sanitary Integration Anselmo Madeddu recalled the importance of clinical and managerial integration: the mobile unit will work closely with the social services of the Municipalities, the Houses of the Community and the Hospitals of the Community to ensure the global take-up and the continuity of the citizen. Not only dentistry, among other projects there is also a home care service for post-gravity women, famigleave of psychiatric patients, proximity clinics. “It is always the same concept, that is to avoid inequalities and contrast them, give equal opportunities and extend the service directly to the citizens’ home: proximity assistance. This is also a very important sector, the ASP has already worked on four projects, there are eight other projects, and all these go in the same direction,” he added. The project does not exclude schools and educational centres, as explained by Madeddu: “The involvement of schools becomes absolutely fundamental because we must go towards a cultural change.” Marine Vèronique Castaing, responsible for the implementation on the territory of Syracuse of the interventions of the PNES, wanted to illustrate the starting numbers that surely leave well hope on the success of the project: “In October we plan to start with the territories of the south of the province, with Rosolini and Ferla, in order to be able to bring the motorhome under the palaces of the people entitled, who have less than 10,000 euros of ISEE or who have alternatively a attestation from the social services. This is why the great importance of involving the social services that in the territory know very well the needs and profiles of their assisted population”.
