ROMA (ITALPRESS) – From today, 24 August, the European Armonised Number 116117 will be active throughout the territory of Lazio. With the completion of the coverage in the Provinces of Viterbo, Frosinone and Latina the extension of the service started in recent months in Rome and Rieti, bringing the entire region to have a single point of access, free and active h24 for seven days a week, for low-intensity health benefits and care priority. The service, aimed at residents, non-residents and tourists, is managed by health professionals of the Area 118; offers multilingual assistance and is organized on 3 levels of response (infirmary, medical and psychological) depending on the needs. It is designed for situations where the citizen needs medical advice or guidance towards the most suitable structure, without resorting to emergency. 116117 does not replace emergency numbers 112 and 118, which remain the reference for urgency: if during the call emerges an emergency condition, the conversation is automatically transferred to 118. Calling 116117 you can receive information about regional health services, get health advice for non-emergency situations and, at the times when the service is active, get in touch with the Assistential Continuity, the former medical guard. The service guarantees the geolocation of the caller and provides dedicated support for people with difficulty listening.
A multi-level response system: healthcare professionals will be able to provide first nursing care and, when necessary, activate the second level of medical response to investigate the case and to guide the citizen towards the most appropriate health service. 116117 may also provide information on how to access health services, including National Health Service, Healthcare Card, Electronic Sanitary Issue, ticket exemptions, choice and revocation of the general medical doctor or pediatrician, prescriptions of drugs and aids and vaccinations. Particular attention will also be paid to non-residents in Lazio and tourists, who will receive information on health care during a temporary stay in the region and on the tourist medical guard.

It is a service that concretely approaches health care to citizens, because it allows to receive a first orientation, a health council and, when necessary, to be directed towards the most appropriate response, avoiding improper access to the ER and thus contributing to reserve emergency-emergency to those who really need it. 116117 is also a fundamental part of the territorial health that we are building in Lazio: a network capable of taking people into charge, accompanying them and offering accessible answers even at night, weekends and holidays. I think, in particular, to the elderly, to those who live far from the great centers, but also to tourists and to those who are temporarily in our region.
