ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The deep sign impressed by the massacre of 2 August 1980 at the Bologna railway station is engraved in the Republican history and in the conscience of the Italians. The infinite pain for so many unarmed victims, women, men, children; the emotion for the massacre and the suffering of the family; the dismay for the destruction brought in the center of the civil life of the city and the whole nation are renewed today, as in every day of recurrence. It is an awareness that concerns our community, young people first. And it raises the commitment to safeguard the future to build in the values of freedom, justice and democracy. The values that the neo-fascist strategy of terror demanded to destroy.” Thus, in a note, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the 46th anniversary of the massacre.
“That commitment, that solidarity that Bologna and Italy could offer to prevent murderers and their accomplices from succeeding in subverting constitutional principles, affecting coexistence and social conquests – he added. The Italian people defeated them in the heavy search for truth. The Republic is grateful to the magistrates and to the men of the institutions who, with their work, have proved stronger than the attempts of deceiving and the families of the victims for their passionate commitment to truth. Justice is a victory of democracy,” he concluded.

“Forty-six years after the massacre, of neo-fascist matrix, at Bologna station, the thought goes to 85 victims, the wounded and their relatives, always marked by that inhuman violence. On this day I express my closeness to the Bolognese community and I address a special memory to Davide Caprioli, a young Veronese, my conterranean, of twenty years, to which the future and the affections were torn in that 2 August 1980. Keeping memory means renewing, especially in the new generations, the awareness of democratic values and the common commitment against terrorism, hatred and all forms of violence.” So the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana.

I see many mayors and administrators from all over Italy: it’s a good answer. We are, and we will continue to be, alongside the Association of Family of Victims which for more than 40 years have struggled to bring out all the truth. And we will not allow it to try to rewrite the history, the history that is fixed on the sentences obtained also in these years thanks to the work of the Association of Family of Victims and the Attorney General of Bologna, to which we have so much gratitude to have come to the bottom in the request of truth and justice, also in the sending process”. Now it is necessary that, starting from those judgments, which must be published and studied thoroughly, continue in the search for truth and in the necessary in depths, as also today asked the families of the victims. We will be there and will, as the Democratic Party, do our part for all the necessary insights, because those judgments reconstruct a fundamental piece of the common history of this country, and we have to insist on this. They are also right to ask that there are all the answers due to them, with full implementation of the law on victims. Therefore, we will continue to insist with them in this direction, because truth is a right first of all of the families of the victims, but a right of all the citizens of Italy and we will go ahead,” he concluded.
