ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, today had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham. It makes it known Palazzo Chigi. In formulating the congratulations and best wishes of good work for the new assignment, President Meloni stressed “the will to further strengthen the solid collaboration and the excellent bilateral relations between Rome and London”.
President Meloni and Prime Minister Burnham shared “the need to pursue every effort for a de-escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, with particular reference to the theme of freedom of navigation”, and “reaffirmed the determination to continue supporting Ukraine, working to achieve a just and lasting peace”.
During the interview, the two Leaders expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). In this regard, the recent meeting between the Ministers of Defence of Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan, to which Canada was first associated with the observer status, “ confirming the centrality of this common technological and industrial program”.
President Meloni and Prime Minister Burnham agreed to maintain “a close agreement with the EU-UK Summit, hoping that the appointment will be an important opportunity to offer a renewed impetus to Euro-British cooperation”.
At the end of the interview, President Meloni invited Prime Minister Burnham to go to Rome for a business meeting in the near future.
