Low, 33 interventions in less than 2 months transform cardiac surgery into Iraq

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – In less than two months, the city of Bassora is making an exceptional difference in open heart surgery. At the Al-Sayyab University Hospital, under the management of GSD – GKSD presided over by Kamel Ghribi, 33 complex and high-specialization interventions were performed. A fundamental step that allows you to locate care in the country, guaranteeing a saving of up to $50,000 per single intervention. This goal has received strong institutional support: the Governor of Bassora, Asaad Al-Eidani, visited the facility to ensure the well-being of the six children whose interventions have successfully ended, accompanied by Dr. Hanan Al-Fatlawi, Professor Bahaa Al-Araji and the Director General of the Department of Health of Bassora. To ensure the sustainability of the service, Professor Tammam Youssef is leading an intensive training program for five Iraqi surgeons and resident doctors. The goal is to reach, by the end of 2026, 200 pediatric and 120 adult interventions, transforming the Al-Sayyab Hospital into a global reference center that lays the foundation for a better medical future.
