The Ambassador of Italy in the United States, Marco Peronaci, opened yesterday the work of an event dedicated to the role of content creators and news influencers, as well as social media, in guiding politics and public opinion in view of the “midterm” elections of next November, in particular regarding young generations.
“Today technology has changed the way of doing politics and also the world of diplomacy, from artificial intelligence to fight against disinformation. In this context, the “creators” have taken on a growing influence as central actors of the media ecosystem, even in view of the decline of confidence in traditional media. Our task is to dialogue and involve such important and influential figures here in the United States,” commented Ambassador Peronaci.
Part of the “Digital Diplomacy Series” of the Embassy in Washington, which reached its fourteenth year of activity, the event was divided into three different panels: the first moderated by Jayme Franklin (founder and CEO of “The Conservateur”) with personality of the conservative world, the second with figures of progressive orientation moderated by Aaron Parnas (among the most famous and influential “creators” The participating speakers reach, as a whole, an audience of over 25 million users.
The event has seen a great public participation, both in the presence and online, through the direct streaming of the event, also available on the social media of the Embassy.
Already on the occasion of the US presidential election of 2024, the “new media” and the “content creators” had been central actors in determining the election result, and it is expected that their importance will be even greater for the elections of next November. According to the Reuters Institute, young Americans are increasingly informed about social media, with 37% of adults under 30 years of age who claims to be informed regularly through “content creators”.
