In Turin the 2nd National Congress of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technicians

TORINO (ITALPRESS) – The 2nd National Congress of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technicians (TeRP) is taking place in Turin. From the title “Transitions and innovations in mental health”, the event was born from the synergy between the National Commission of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technicians and the AITeRP Scientific Technical Association. An appointment, therefore, which is the fruit of a co-design that unites the two fundamental dimensions of a health profession: scientific and orderly. A shared path that focuses on the well-being and mental health of the community and strengthens the role and identity of psychiatric rehabilitation technicians within the healthcare system. At the centre of the Congress, the request to ensure therapeutic continuity in the most delicate steps of the mental health care path. The perspective indicated is to design care and take-up paths that do not interrupt in moments of “transition”, but that know how to accompany the person in a coherent and continuous manner. “For our profession – says Roberta Famulari, president of the TeRP National Albo Commission – when we address the issue of the ‘riordino’, in distinctive terms, it is essential to start from a conceptual differentiation that defines our identity and our skills: that between ‘mental health’ and ‘psychiatry’”. Psychiatric rehabilitation lies between these two areas.”.

A bridge, therefore, between the clinical management of symptoms and the concrete recovery of the functioning in the daily life of the person. “The TeRP – continues Famulari – with its specificity, plays its strategic role in this space: it promotes precocious interventions based on scientific evidence that take into account the bio-psycho-social complexity, offering the assisted person a horizon of recovery, hope and real improvement of the quality of life”. Luca Rossi, President AITeRP, emphasised the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technique as a proximity professional: “We need to promote transversal alliances, continuous training and active listening to experiences.” In his speech Rossi stressed how transitions, if governed, “critical steps can become new opportunities”, and the innovations tools for real social participation. “The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technician, in an evolutionary projection, will be called to coordinate those famous critical transitions, not only to provide interventions.”.

Present at the opening of the works also Diego Catania, president of the National Federation of Orders of Technical Health, Rehabilitation and Prevention (Fno Tsrm and Pstrp) – to which the TeRP afferences – that in its intervention has evidenced the value of collaboration between the system of orders and the scientific dimension of the professions: “The future of our professional families lies in the close collaboration between the scientific world of health professions and the orderly institutions. Without scientific documentation based on knowledge, a profession can never be considered autonomous and intellectual. For this reason, investments must also be directed towards scientific research.” “Today, psychiatric rehabilitation is one of the main aspects of mental health interventions, as it can allow continuity of care and taking into account in different contexts.” It is Alberto Siracusano’s commentary, President of the Higher Council of Health and Psychiatry, intervened at the TeRP Congress. A centrality that, according to Syracuse, is reflected directly in the evolution of the professional role of the Technicians of psychiatric rehabilitation: “The role of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technique over the years has become a primary, reference role.”.

For the occasion, the Piedmontese capital has welcomed over 200 psychiatry rehabilitation technicians, who have come from all over Italy to discuss and discuss priority issues concerning the profession. During the event, interventions by the representatives of the institutions, university professors, researchers, industry experts, and especially professionals, who each day measure themselves within mental health services, bringing a contribution based on experience and comparison, through a critical and constructive approach.
