Mattarella “After the twenty-year fascist on June 2 marked a turning point in the country”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Dear Prefects, I address a warm greeting to you and to those who, in the different territories, cover public offices, animate local communities, are expressions of civil society. To those – citizens and citizens – today celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Republic. On June 2, 1946, the vote of the Italian people marked – after the twenty-year fascist, the war tragedy, the Liberation struggle – a turning point in the history of the country, laying the foundations for building, on the solid foundations of the Constitution, a new civil pact, inspired by the principles of freedom, equality and solidarity, driven by an intense thirst for peace”. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who, on the occasion of the celebration of the Republic’s Day, sent a message to the Prefects of Italy so that they can be interpreted in the initiatives promoted locally on the 2nd of June. “The Republic was born of a choral and sincere exercise of democracy – says the Head of State –. The protagonist was the Italian people who moved with extraordinary participation and composed the seats, the choice of the order of the State and the election of the Constituent Assembly. Women were the protagonists, in particular, called for the first time at the polls in the history of Italy, for the administrative elections during that year and for the consultations of 2 June. On this occasion, in a delicate transition, the free exercise of the vote was again guaranteed, restoring after years – with the overwhelming contribution of the Prefectures and other institutions – the functioning of the complex electoral machine”. “The national community, in today’s memory of those fundamental moments, renews its firm adherence to republican ideals, projected in the European horizon – adds Mattarella. He recalls the faces and civil passion of so many citizens, of so many women and men of the institutions, who generously, in eighty years of life of the Republic, in the most different roles and circumstances, contributed to its development, spending itself for the common good, sometimes up to the heroism and sacrifice of its existence. The values of the Constitution live in the action of those who put themselves at the service of the community.” “The work of Prefects, in particular, unfolding every day in the guarantee of the framework of democratic freedoms, promoting legality and security, facing with promptness the emergence of emergency situations in the coordination of the activities of institutions, associations and volunteering, is precious to our community, also on the ground of social conflicts, of crisis situations, in which they are at risk dignity and safety of work, the foundation of our cohabitation. In the lives of citizens and communities, the consequences of international tensions are increasingly reverberated, generating concerns and insecurity. In this context – Mattarella points out -, to those who are leading public offices are of great value, in the exercise of their mandates, listening skills, intelligent reading of emerging social dynamics, sensitivity for situations of discomfort and greater fragility, to elaborate effective responses. The future of the country depends on it. Supporting the plot of social fabric, intercepting – together with school and other educational agencies – needs, questions, expectations of young generations, enhancing talent and potential, is fundamental. Dialogue, listening, proximity are essential to interpret every civic responsibility oriented to social cohesion. Consolidating the architecture of trust between institutions and citizens, reinviving in each one the most authentic sense of democratic participation, is a persistent task in the life of the Republic. In renewing feelings of gratitude for the work performed, they reach the Prefects and all thosethat are used for the care of the collective interest, good wishes and good Festival of the Republic.” – photo press office Quirinale –(ITALPRESS).
