ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Ministry of Health has activated the monitoring and prevention procedures for the “Andes” (ANDV), after an international outbreaker that involved a cruise ship and some air flights. Although the risk for the Italian population is considered “very low” by experts from the Dispatch network and ECDC, the authorities adopted the principle of maximum caution.
The alert was taken in particular for four passengers heading to Italy, who had travelled on a flight from South Africa to the Netherlands on 25 April, the same means on which a confirmed case was present. For these people, trust quarantine and active surveillance has already been activated.
The Ministry also defined the guidelines for hospitals and laboratories: the virus can be transmitted between humans through body fluids or close and prolonged contacts. For this reason, anyone who has come into contact with the passengers of the ship MV Hondius (barred in the Canary Islands) or with established cases will have to observe a quarantine of six weeks. At the moment, the rodent acting as a natural reservoir of the virus is not present in Italy, and the rare cases recorded in our country in the past have always been linked to travel abroad.
SCHILLACI “NESSUN PERICOLO DA HANTAVIRUS IN ITALIA”
“We are working on a circular because it is important to do the point and give information to the regions, in compliance with maximum safety. I’m also here to make sure that there is no danger in Italy today” for the hantavirus. The Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci told Tg1. “hantavirus – continues – is a virus that has low contagiosity and so we are quiet and we are activated immediately. We are ready, but we want to calm everyone.”.
