ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will receive on Tuesday, May 12, at 13, the Olympic Gold Collar assigned to him by the International Olympic Committee. He will be the President of the CIO Kirsty Coventry to hand him over to the Quirinale during a private audience, to which will also be the President of the CONI, Luciano Buonfiglio, the Secretary General, Carlo Mornati, and the President of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, Giovanni Malagò.
In the motivation of the award, it says that “through this award the CIO wishes to express to President Sergio Mattarella the deepest thanks and gratitude for his tireless commitment and full support to make unforgettable the Winter Olympic Games of Milan Cortina 2026”.
During the meeting, President Coventry will also give Mattarella the “Olympic Cup” to the Italian people. The Olympic Cup is an award established in 1906 by Pierre de Coubertin, and is awarded annually by the CIO to entities or associations that have demonstrated merit and integrity in the development of the Olympic Movement. For 2026 the CIO decided to assign it to the Italian citizens for the support and passion shown at the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina 2026 and is delivered to Mattarella as Head of State.
