Tajani hears Rubio, focus on Iran and the negotiations between Israel and Lebanon

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had a long telephone interview with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, dedicated to the main international dossiers, with particular focus on the Middle East. The Farnesina communicates this, stressing that ample space was reserved for the negotiations between Israel and Lebanon and the Iranian crisis. Tajani expressed appreciation for the diplomatic commitment of the United States, which allowed the start of a new round of talks in Washington, reaffirming the need to reach an agreement that guarantees the exclusively civil nature of the Iranian nuclear program. Tajani also recalled his recent mission in Beirut and contacts with the main regional partners, confirming the Italian readiness to host future negotiations.

The prospect of regional de-escalation and the resumption of dialogue in Islamabad was also addressed during the interview. Tajani confirmed Italian support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts, underlining the urgency of guaranteeing the security of the Gulf countries and the reopening of the Hormuz Strait in safety conditions. In this context, Italy remains ready to contribute to multilateral initiatives for maritime safety and freedom of navigation, respecting international law. The two Ministers also welcomed the signing of the EU-United States agreement on critical minerals, aimed at strengthening the resilience of supply chains. On Venezuela, Tajani highlighted the reboot of political contacts, even in the light of recent talks with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and the next visit to Italy of the Minister of Commerce of Venezuela. The political and humanitarian situation in Cuba was also discussed.

Tajani and Rubio, concludes the note, “they agreed to maintain close coordination on the main international dossiers and confirm the importance of the next entrepreneurial and scientific forum to organize in Miami with the participation of the companies of the two countries”.
