Meloni departed from Gedda, with bin Salman focus on energy and war

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, has just departed from Gedda (the first stage of the visit to the Gulf region, during which meetings are planned also with the leaders of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates) where yesterday evening was received by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. It makes it known Palazzo Chigi.

President Meloni wanted to express, with his presence, the closeness of Italy to Saudi Arabia, underlined the note, pointing out that during the interview the two leaders discussed the defensive military assistance provided by Italy, comparing on the perspectives of the conflict and on the ongoing efforts for a diplomatic solution and, more widely, on how to promote a regional framework that can emerge from the current cycle of conflict. The meeting also allowed us to discuss how to ensure energy supply and reduce the impact of the crisis on businesses and citizens. The two leaders also agreed on the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait as soon as possible.

President Meloni and Prince Mohammed finally discussed the strategic partnership launched between the two Nations on the occasion of the previous mission of the President of the Council in Al-Ula (January 2025) and agreed on the importance, even more in the current regional and international scenario, of developing broad-range cooperation on economics, investments, strategic infrastructure, security and defence.
