Environment and lifestyles, presented the volume of AIL on the onco-ematological risk

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – At the University of Milan-Bicocca, the presentation of the volume that collects the acts of the National Convention AIL 2024 entitled “The impact of the Environment and the Styles of Life in the Onco-Ematological Risk”, curated by Aurelio Angelini and Mariaclaudia Cusumano, promoted by the Italian Association against Leucemie, Lymphoma and myeloma. The volume, edited by FrancoAngeli and with the preface by Giuseppe Toro, comes from the need to make available the scientific, social and institutional contributions emerged during the fourth edition of the AIL Convention “Curare is taking care of. Environmental impact and health risk, well-being and lifestyles”, which compared medical experts, epidemiology, environmental and social sciences, representatives of institutions and associations, with the aim of deepening the possible correlations between pollution, lifestyles and onco-ematological risk. Cancer is one of the major health and social challenges: the increase in incidence is linked not only to the ageing of the population, but also to exposure to changing environmental risk factors such as air, soil and water pollution, as well as individual non-healthy behaviors. In this scenario, AIL intends to constantly contribute to the public debate by promoting an integrated vision between environmental and health policies, respecting the right to health enshrined in Article 32 of the Constitution.

The volume includes interventions by over thirty speakers who have addressed central issues such as the impact of atmospheric pollutants, plastics and PFAS, nutrition and nutrition, climate change, electromagnetic pollution, primary prevention, sustainable lifestyles and the “One Health” model. Ample space is also dedicated to the experiences of the AIL sections on the territory and to the role of prevention as an instrument of individual and collective protection. The presentation at the University of Milan-Bicocca represents a moment of institutional confrontation to reaffirm that taking care of health also means reducing environmental risks, promoting social awareness and strengthening shared strategies for the prevention of onco-ematological diseases. With this publication AIL confirms its commitment, in addition to support for scientific research and assistance to hematologic patients, to disseminate knowledge and to foster a culture of health that integrates environment, lifestyles and psychophysical well-being, in the interest of the whole community. For over 55 years AIL – Italian Association against Leucemie, lymphoma and myeloma, with its 83 provincial sections and over 17,000 volunteers throughout Italy, promotes and supports scientific research for the care of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. He assists the sick and their families, accompanying them in all stages of the long and often suffered path of the disease, offering them services, knowledge and understanding. He is at their side to improve the quality of life and support them in the care path.
