The Government assures Malta sharing on monitoring the Russian oil tanker

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – A meeting was held at Palazzo Chigi chaired by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and the Minister for Civil Protection and the Policies of the Sea Nello Musumeci, as well as the undersecretary of the Presidency of Mantovano At the center of the meeting the situation of the ship LNG Arctic Metagaz, flying the Russian flag, which transports substantial quantities of gas, heavy oil and diesel oil and that from a few days is drifting, unmanned, in the Mediterranean Sea.

Given that the boat is currently located within the Maltese SAR area, and that the Malta authorities have established a minimum safety distance of 5 nautical miles, the Italian Government has ensured to the Government of La Valletta the sharing of the monitoring initiated from the first moment. Italy has also confirmed its willingness to carry out support activities, pending the determinations of the Maltese authorities, with which it remains in constant contact.
