ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “A few days ago, in our country, the sport we were talking about was conjugated with ample prevalence to the male. Today the scenario is quite different. Women’s nationals and Italian athletes win, excite, urge participation and pride.” Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Women’s Day at the Quirinale. “The Italian woman is a scientist, entrepreneur, artist, magistrate, astronaut, champion, political leader and union, is at the top of the state.”.
The path to equality “will only be completed as women will not be asked to hire male behavior models to see their skills and quality recognised. Until this happens, there will continue to be a loss of values and opportunities for the entire Italian society,” added the Head of State.
“The Italian Republic, in its eighty years of history, has been able to develop and consolidate itself in freedom also thanks to the contribution of women. He will continue to do so if he will continue to give voice, space and freedom to their talents,” he explained.
“The female presence in the professions or institutions is not a matter of quotas: it is the sign of a Republic that recognizes and values all the best energies it has. The Republic has given women a lot. Women have given much to the Republic and the balance is not yet equal,” he said.
“A society that invests on women becomes, besides fairer, stronger, more innovative, more dynamic. All factors indicate that the economy grows with women’s work and with it the overall quality of life grows,” he said. “Promoting policies that promote inclusion, training, women’s leadership, supporting motherhood without career penalty, are key factors for the future of our Italy,” said Mattarella.
“It is paradoxical to have to deal with often of gender violence. Yet it is, unfortunately, necessary. The commitment of civilization to deliver it to the past does not only require the strengthening of the norms of law and the instruments of protection, but requires above all to purify the souls from a distorted mentality that feeds on avicious prejudices and guilty ignorance”, said Mattarella. “Educating respect in the family first, at school, in the workplace is the most effective answer to building a society where no woman can be afraid or can be left alone.”.
“Our Republic must continue to enhance the role of women, reducing the obstacles that still limit its potential: the wage gap, the lack of presence in the apical roles of companies, gender violence, reconciliation between life and work,” he concluded.
