Iran, Tajani “Solidal with the Gulf Countries: enough missiles, enough drones”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We follow with great concern the escalation in the Gulf region and fully understand the apprehension of the countries of the area, to which we have expressed and continue to express our solidarity. No more missiles, no more drones.” It is one of the steps of the interview of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani at Sky News Arabia. The Minister recalled that in the area affected by the conflict there are about 100,000 Italian citizens, many of whom in the United Arab Emirates, thanking the Emiratine authorities for the insured support of the Italian community and for the collaboration in guaranteeing assistance to the compatriots during the attacks. Tajani reiterated the strong friendship that binds Italy to the Gulf countries and the Italian readiness to contribute to the security of the region. “We responded promptly to the demands of some Gulf countries, including the Emirates, to have help in defending the skies. We have informed Parliament of our intention to provide assistance through military instruments, with the aim of protecting our Italian partners and citizens and military people who live and operate in that area.”.

In the course of the interview, the owner of the Farnesina also reiterated the Italian position in favor of a diplomatic solution of the crisis: “We are always on the side of peace, political dialogue and negotiating solutions, not the use of weapons” Italy has always spent on the negotiating path, we want to enter into a new phase in which diplomacy and politics return.” On the European strategy, the Minister also indicated that “Europe firmly condemned attacks. There is a document signed by the 27 and the Gulf countries, so there is a common position. Europe works for peace, wants the objective of the two peoples and two states to be reached in Palestine, is contrary to Israel taking part in the West Bank, but Europe is also contrary to the idea that Iran can have an atomic bomb.” With reference to a possible attack on Europe, Tajani said: “I hope this never happens, it would be unacceptable. We have made it clear that Cyprus must never be attacked again, it is no coincidence that military ships have been sent from half Europe.” “Don’t touch Europe,” Tajani said. Finally, the Minister highlighted how the current crisis is affecting energy markets and the prospects for regional stability.

“The repercussions could be between a month, at the moment there are only international speculations to increase the price of gas and oil,” said the Minister. “The energy theme is fundamental. It is necessary to work so that the energy crisis is not there, so that Hormuz is reopened and oil exporting countries can continue to do so.” Tajani expressed the hope that the conflict can end quickly and that it will return as soon as possible to a path of dialogue and negotiation. “We want peace and stability” reiterated on Sky News Arabya, ending with a clear message to Iran: “No more missiles, no more drones.”.
