Iran, Meloni “Italy intends to send aid to the Gulf countries, but we are not at war and we do not want to enter”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The crisis “wages on different fronts. In general, I am worried in the meantime by an increasingly evident crisis of international law, of multilateral bodies which is obviously creating a world increasingly governed by chaos. It was unfortunately predictable after the total anomalousness of a member of the United Nations Security Council who invaded his neighbor.” Thus the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, at “Non stop news” on Rtl 102.5.

“I am concerned by a conflict that in particular with Iran’s uncompromising reaction,” which “is basically bombing all neighboring countries, including those who had spent on an agreement on Iranian nuclear power and clearly this involves the risk of an escalation that can have totally unpredictable consequences.”.

“I am obviously concerned about the possible repercussions on Italy: we are working on all these fronts, while we are in continuous contact with the main allies, with the leaders of the Middle East – added the President of the Council – We are engaged above all on three fronts, we work diplomatically also through these contacts to understand if there are margins for a resumption of the negotiations for Iranian nuclear. However, it is impossible from my point of view if Iran does not stop attacking neighbouring countries and the Gulf countries.”.

“We have the priority to secure the tens of thousands of Italians who are in the area – military, diplomatic, citizens who were in transit – and give assistance to those who were stuck. We have already arranged the first flights to bring back the first convoys, even to bring back those who have been blocked, especially in Dubai – Meloni continued – Some convoys are moving to the neighboring nations, we try to get them from safe airports, and we also have to thank United Arab Emirates, Oman, who are friends and are giving us a hand. Then we clearly have the theme of economic consequences for Italy: we must prevent speculation from imploding even unjustly the prices of energy and food.”.

“Italy – like the United Kingdom, France, Germany intends to send aid to the Gulf countries. We are clearly talking of defence particularly of aerial defence, not only because they are friendly nations, but above all because in that area there are tens of thousands of Italians and there are about 2,000 Italian soldiers that we want to protect. Among other things, the Gulf is also vital for the energy supply of Italy and Europe,” he added.

“We are not at war and we do not want to go into war. In Italy we have military bases granted to American use, by virtue of agreements dating back to 1954′′ according to which “there are technical authorizations when clearly talking about logistics and so-called non-cynetic operations. If there were any requests for use of the Italian bases to do anything else, I think in that case we should decide it together with Parliament. To date, however, we have no request in this sense,” Meloni said.

“We know that terrorism linked to Islamic fundamentalism is a particularly complex phenomenon, on which one cannot and must never lower the guard. It is a phenomenon that also uses actors and solitary actions, and this is particularly complex, but also from this point of view we are totally mobilized. All security services are permanently mobilized and alerted. The Minister Piantedosi has already called the National Committee for Order and Security, the strategic anti-terrorism analysis committee is gathering in a cadenced way: we have excellencies, surely even here we are not distracted. The guard is very high and especially must be at a time like this”, he concluded.
