MILAN (ITALPRESS) – On the occasion of the World Obesity Day, which is celebrated on March 4, Rudy Alexander Rossetto, former President of the Order of Biologists of Lombardy and Biologist Nutritionist, organizes, in collaboration with Unika Ricerca & Salute, the National Congress accredited ECM “World Obesity Day”. The event, which will be held on 4 and 5 March 2026 at the Teatro Angelicum in Milan, represents a unique opportunity for comparison for professionals and scholars and will offer moments of scientific study and multidisciplinary debate on the most current issues related to obesity. Established in 2015 by the World Obesity Federation, the World Day for Obesity Prevention draws attention to a global problem. “Today obesity is one of the main public health emergencies and requires an approach based on scientific knowledge, professional responsibility and collaboration between different skills,” says Rudy Alexander Rossetto. “This congress aims to offer qualified updating tools and to stimulate a broader reflection involving citizens, institutions and the information system. Only through a shared vision and concrete interventions it is possible to deal effectively with such a complex phenomenon.” According to the most recent data of the World Health Organization, over 2.5 billion adults globally have an excess of weight and about 890 million live with obesity, with trend in constant growth in recent decades. Among adolescents the number of people with obesity has been quadrupled since 1990 and projections indicate that without structured interventions over half of the adult population could be affected by it by 2050. The phenomenon does not save the younger bands: the latest data on the obesity of the pediatric band determine that hundreds of millions of children and adolescents between 5 and 19 years are now overweight or obesity, with long-term implications for metabolic, cardiovascular and psychological health. In Italy, according to the most recent epidemiological reports (10th Report on Obesity in Italy, Auxologico IRCCS), almost 46% of Italian adults are overweight, of which about 11.8% live with obesity. Among young people there are significant rates of overweight and obesity, highlighting the need for early preventive interventions and integrated public health policies. An important legislative step is the approval, by the Chamber of Deputies, of the bill “Dispositions for prevention and care of obesity”. The measure recognizes obesity as chronic, progressive and relapsed disease, provides for uniform diagnostic-therapeutic pathways on the national territory and guarantees access to treatment through the Essential Levels of Assistance (LEA). In this area, Dr. Rossetto has continuously promoted the recognition of obesity as a health priority, promoting dialogue between health professionals and institutions and contributing to the definition of proposals aimed at prevention, training and multidisciplinary care of patients. This data and recent legislative initiatives confirm that, despite the progress of nutritional and preventive sciences, obesity remains the serious “non-infective epidemic” of the third millennium and requires coordinated responses between health professionals, institutions, schools, media and civil society. The scientific rationale of Congress is based on the increasing evidence that obesity represents today one of the main challenges of public health globally and nationally, configuring itself no longer as a simple condition linked to lifestyle, but as a complex and multi-organ chronic disease, with relevant metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, oncological and psychological implications. Its progressive diffusion affects allage axes and significantly compromises expectation and quality of life. In this context, the scientific literature of recent years has highlighted the central role of intestinal, oral and systemic microbiota as a key player in the regulation of energy homeostasis, chronic inflammation, metabolism and food behaviour. The interaction between nutrition, microbiota and obesity today represents one of the most dynamic and promising areas of biomedical research and clinical practice. To celebrate this day significantly, the World Obesity Day Congress, entitled “Obesity as a multi organ chronic disease: new strategies for prevention and treatment”, will see the participation of a high-profile national and international faculty, composed of professionals engaged in clinical research, nutrition, preventive medicine, psychology and obesity therapy. The event will take place under the scientific guidance of Dr. Rossetto and Professor Marcello Romeo, with the support of a Scientific Committee that includes Professor Fabrizio Angelini, President of the SinSeb and Head of Nutrition and Supplementation for the Sport of Juventus F.C.; Professor Silvio Buscemi, President of the SIO (Italian Society of Obesity); Professor Riccardo Candido, president of the Fondazione AMDella A multidisciplinary partnership will ensure a thorough and up-to-date scientific comparison on one of the most complex themes of contemporary public health. Among the most important speakers, in fact, are Dr. Luca Bernardo, Director of the Department of Pediatrics of the Hospital Fatebenefratelli; Professor Riccardo Caccialanza, Head and Coordinator of the Clinical Nutrition Area of the IRCCCS Hospital San Raffaele; Professor Fabio Esposito, professor at the University of Milan; Gian Mario Migliaccio, professor of the San Raffaele University of Rome and researcher in sport, fitness and nutrition; Nadia Rovelli, president of the Order of the Profession of Ostetrica/or interprovincial of Bergamo, Cremona, Como, Lecco, Lodi, Milan, Monza Brianza and Sondrio; Dr. Giuliano Sarro, director of the Operational Unit of General Surgery and Bariatrica of the Clinical Institute of High Speciality San Gaudenzio of Novara; Professor Simone Guglielmetti, Professor of Microbiology. World Obesity Day, obesity as chronic multi organ disease: new strategies for prevention and treatment, is organized by the ECM Unika Ricerca&Salute provider and realized with the non-conditional contribution of BROMATECH. Participation will allow 5.6 ECM credits.
